This Blog is an Humble attempt to spread the Divine Message of Pujjya BapuJi & Dedicated at the Lotus feets SHRI CHARANKAMAL Of PARAM PUJYA GURUJI SANT SHRI ASARAM JI BAPU VishwaGuru Of the Age.

The essence of Bharata lies in Her culture of Self-realization. ParamAtman is not seen as something apart, but as our very essence, the one True Self that resides in the heart of us all. Raising ourselves from ordinary individuals to the heights of Supreme Consciousness is only possible with the guidance of one who is already in that transcendent state. Such a one is called a Satguru, a True Yogi, as in one who has gained mastery over the mind, one who is beyond the mind.

From ancient times up to the present day, an unbroken succession of Self-realized Saints have incarnated in the Land of Yogis & Saints Bharata to lead seekers of Truth to the ultimate reality.

Vasthu Shastra: The knowledge of Nature

Vasthu Shastra is a traditonal science of architecture of Sanatana Hindu Dharma
The Ancient Indian Science of Time & Space,Sound & Light, Word & Form.

Vastu Shastra from Ashram in Hindi

The spiritual culture of the land of India owe its origin to the traditional Indian science of Vaastu Shastra found abundantly reflected in the architectural and sculptural expressions of temples, forts, palaces, town and city layout of ancient India. Today it is re-emerging spectacularly and the benefits of this spiritual science is availed throughout the world, by its application in the design and construction of public, residential and religious buildings. This science deals with the eternal process of the subtle energy manifesting into material space or material form. In short, it is the science of manifestation of energy into matter or material form.

Vasthu Shastra 2
Vasthu Shastra 3
Vasthu Shastra 4
Vasthu Shastra 5
Vasthu Shastra 6
Shastras professing the ancient Indian Science and Technology of design and construction of structures and of Town Planning, that have been in vogue from very early times, are not mere building codes or construction manuals, as generally assumed and propagated by the scholars. They are but Shastras replete with technological material and measures, based on unique Science of Energy and Matter, Time and Space & Space and Spatial Form, so far not recorded in the history of the land of their origin. This science has escaped the notice of all, over the centuries.

‘Vas’ means ‘to dwell’ or ‘to occupy’. Vasthu means ‘dwelling place.’ Vasthu Shastra is the set of guidelines prescribed by the Rishis or learned men of ancient India for planning and constructing our dwelling places which range from our homes, cities, states, countries and eventually extend to our planet and the universe.

Nature consists of Panchabhutam, the five elements Akasham or Sky, Vaayu or Air, Agni or Fire, Bhumi or Earth and Jalam or Water

The shastras or the ancient Indian texts on science tell us that cosmic energy has a specific influence on living beings.
Five elements reside in nature in specific proportions. Vasthu Shastra involves the alignment of these five basic elements according to the law of nature. The effects of these five elements have to be studied to appreciate the science of vasthu in its pure form and also to pacify skeptics who question the efficiency and validity of vasthu shastra.
Plants and animals live in perfect harmony with nature. But we human beings, the superior beings that inhabit the earth, have forgotten how to keep peace with our surroundings. If we can modify our homes to harness the energy of the cosmos in such a way that our homes are in complete harmony with our bodies it can help us to succeed in all our endeavors. Due to the magnetic properties of the earth, the needle of a compass always points to the north.
The Vasthusasthram has developed over generations as a result of observations of the influence of the SUN and the MAGNETIC fields on earth and living bodies, mentally and physically

For any problems that you may be having with your health, mental and body peace, it is recommended that you construct buildings “as per the principals of Vasthusasthra –
THE LAW OF NATURE
There are two parts to Vasthu Sasthra
1. The science of Vasthu of land.
2. The science of Vasthu of building.

SCRIPTURAL ORIGIN OF VAASTU SHASTRA
The science of Vaastu Shastra, that dealt with cosmic principles of Universal creation, which the Divine Shilpis extended to their creations on earth. This science was expounded and propagated by the Divine architects the Viswakarma (the Universal Creator)The Architect of Gods & the Mayan (the illusionist )The Architect of Demons.

ORIGIN OF VAASTU PURUSH
VAASTU Shastra believes in the existence of VAASTU Purush who is the main deity of a building. In this regard Rigved says:
“TAVA TVAM VAASTUNYU IMASI GA MADHYE
YATR GAVAU BHURI SHRINGA AVASAH ||”
that is VAASTU has a relation with Griha devata (deity of the home)
According to Shatpath Brahmin (an ancient scripture), VAASTU is the ruling deity of animal stock and the people living in a home.
Concept of VAASTU Purush in VAASTU Shastra is an ancient one. As per the scriptures, once a fierce battle took place in ancient times between a demon Andhakasur and Lord Shiv. During the battle, a few drops of Lord Shankar’s sweat fell on the ground and gave birth to a formidable monster. The monster at once began to kill the gods. Acting unitedly then, all the gods captured the monster and burried him with his face facing down. The gods also granted a boon to pacify him: “You shall be worshipped in all auspicious tasks.”
Since the gods made an abode on the monster, he came to be known as VAASTU Purush. And since all the gods have an abode on him, he is worshipped by prudent people.

Vishwakarma is regarded as the father of VAASTU Shastra.
In his treatise Vishwakarma Prakash, he writes about the origin of VAASTU Purush:

TAMEV VAASTU PURUSHAM BRAHMA SAMA SRIJATPRABHUH |
KRISHNPAKSHE TRITIYATA MASI BHADRPADE TATHA ||

In Tretayug on the third day of the dark phase of the lunar month Bhadrpad, Brahma created a formidable man. Even the gods were frightened by his appearance. Then by Brahma’s consent, all the gods pushed him down, with his face downward and themselves sat on him.
The formidable man then appealed to Brahma: “O Lord, you have created this cosmos. This body is also yours. Why then these gods are torturing me without reason? Tell me how should I behave with the gods.”
Pleased Brahma said: “Since this moment your worship shall be indispensable in every auspicious construction work because of your presence beneath the gods. Those who won’t worship you for any reason shall have to suffer penury and untimely death. They shall have to face your wrath and hence obstacles in everything they do.”

ATRIYAM MRITYUMAPNOTIVIGHN VAKTASAYAPADE-PADE |
VAASTU PUJAM AVARNAH TAVAHARU BHAVISHYATI ||

Therefore in the beginning of a building’s construction, installation of doors and on the occasion of making first entry into newly built home, worship of VAASTU is more than must. Apart from these occasions, on every auspicious task offerings ought to be made into fire according to one’s strength.

ORIENTATION OF VAASTU PURUSH IN A PLOT OF LAND

VAASTU Purush is lain with his face downward. His head points to north-east, while feet point together to south-west. His right hand and the joint of right leg point toward south-east, while left hand and joint of left leg point to north west.

Even the grand palace of the great Pandavas “The Indraprastha “was not perfect , so please dont worry about any vastu doshas of ur house believe in ur Atman be peacefull

the story of Indraprastha (the palace of illusions)
To celebrate their victory, the Pandavas have a Palace of Illusions built for them, by Mayadanava,

the story starts like this

Lord Shri krishna & Arjuna defeated the demons and burned the terrible forest khandava on request of God Agni

after khandava dahanam maya danava feared of Arjuna’s valuor , seeks refuge in the feets of Arjuna, being great warrior with kind heart Arjuna easily gave him pardon and refuge

Lord Shri Krishna didnt believed the demon and asked him to show something as his thanking

maya demon was clever he knew he could never fool the Lord Shri Krishnaa so he played different strategy for Pandavas

Maya danavas offered Arjuna to built grand palace for pandavas, arjuna was happy but Shri krishna still suggested to have a care

As said Maya danava built grand beautifull palace for pandavas in no time, it ms so beautifull but was full of illusion , its attraction was so strange that anyone would get fooled by its maya

Pandavas were all happy for this gift, except Shri krishna

Shri krishna suggested not to live there that palace full of illusion
the palace was so that anybody fell into illusion and its magical attraction

so did the poor pandavas
pandavas didnt listen to krishna’s suggestion and accepted the palace as gift

mayademon was so evil hearted that
he wanted to take revenge to Arjun who pardoned his life and gave him refugee and destroy all pandavas

the demon decieved innocent Arjuna and all pandavas

the palace was attractive and mysterious and strange
Actually is was big trap than the laakshagraha, as the whole palace of indrapratha was made with wrong vasthu , all against the principle of Vasthu shastra

the biggest mistake did knowinly by the cruel architect was the pool at the centre of palace , exactly the centre brahma sthana of the whole place

the same pool where Duryodhana falls, Duryodhana walking into the palace, mistakes a pond for a glossy floor and falls in.
and get insulted by draupadi
which was the main cause of Mahabharata war

it was so built that ho ever live in that palace would loose all positive energy and would be destroyed with all their whole family in just thirteen years
but the evils plan are never succesful

Jaoko raakhe saaiya maar sakenaa koi
baal na naaka kar sake chaahe jag bayarii hoi

But who has Bhagvan himself as their savior , who can kill them
no one can pluck a hair of the devotee , even when all rhe world is enemy

Lord Shri Krishna knew this and the destiny of all them, so by the blessing of Bhagvan Shri krishna pandava lived happily for thirteen years

After thirteen years one day yuddishitra taked a dred full decisiom of accepthing the challenge game of dice without even consulting Lord Shri Krishna

as his ill destiny Yuddisitra lost all his great kingdom and all pandavas get an exile for thirteen years

but here destiny was opposite also for kauravas

After winning the dice game Duryodhana, came to live in this cursed palace with all his family and friends

after thirteen years , when pandavas completed ther exile ,Lord Shri Krishna went to hastinapur as peace messenger to ward off a terrible destructive war

but only Duryodhana was mad to war ,he even dissmised the most modest and simple request of five villages for pandavas

and the war of Mahabharata happened
Pandavas with Lord Shri Krishna win the war

and the cursed palace was destroyed forever by the pandavas on special instruction of Lord Shri Krishna

for the good and peace for the world

shri krishna bhagvan

KNOWLEDGE OF DIRECTION AND THEIR SIGNIFICANCE

In VAASTU Shastra, eight directions – North, East, West, South, North-east, South-east, South-west and North-west are considered as important. If you are planning to build your bungalow or any other building on the basis of VAASTU Shastra, first of all you should have knowledge of your plot’s direction. Then you should decide in which direction you ought to keep your main gate. You may if necessary, take the help of a compass to know the directions.

As the numerals have their apparent influence of human life, similarly influence of the directions is also apparent. Richness or penury of a person can be known from the location of his house. In which direction is his house located? Which direction does the entrance of his house face? How is the interior decoration? These and other related things reveal the economic condition of a person. Similarly changes that must be made in order to bring prosperity and to prevent imminent danger or crisis can also be known with the help of VAASTU Shastra.

As everybody knows there are four major directions – east, west, north and south. Besides these, four sub-directions are also considered. These are Agney (South-east), Nairitya (South-west), Vayavya (North-west) and Ishaan (north-east).

Each of these directions and sub-directions has its own merits and demerits and yields results accordingly. Every direction has a deity or lord that rules it.

EAST: Indra is the ruling deity of the east. He was born out of Brahma’s mouth and is capable of destroying enemies. He can appear in any form as per his wishes. He is also the lord of rains and has the wind as his assistant. Increment in wealth, cereals and animal stock can be effected through worshipping Indra. Indra is also the king of the heaven. Elephant Airavat is Indra’s vehicle and Vajra (lightning) in his weapon. The east is also the abode of gods like Surya, Agni, Indra, Jayant, Ish, Parjanya, Satya, Bhup and Akash.
The east is also known as a direction of lineage. During the construction of the house, some portion must be left open in the east. It leads to long life for the owner.

WEST: The west is the opposite of the east. No work can progress in the west. Varun (Neptune) is the lord of this direction, which is under the influence of sage Agastya. Sea is the abode of Varun (Neptune). He therefore, has most influence on the water bodies. A proper utilization of westerly portion of plot leads to reputation, fame, prosperity and success for the owner.

NORTH: Kuber is the lord of this direction. Literally, Kuber means the one who controls the imminent events and causes increments. He has inassessible wealth and property. Kuber is the king of Yakshas and Kinnars and is a friend of Rudra (Shiv). Kailash is the abode of Kuber who has three legs, eight hands and a yellow dot in place of eyes.

Mercury is the planet that rules the north. It is more influencial in the dark phase of every lunar month. North is a also an abode of the gods like Kuber, Diti, Aditi, Shail, Naga and Bhallat etc.
North is also a place of mother. Leaving some portion open in north leads to prosperity of maternal side as well as provides wealth, comforts, peace etc. for the owner.

SOUTH: Yama is the lord of this direction. He is the son of Surya and is hostile towards Vishnu. Nakshatra Bharani is the most important for him. During the last eight days of the lunar months of Ashwin and Kartika this nakshatra is more influencial. South direction weakens human life, hence all the auspicious tasks are forbidden in the south. South is also an abode of the gods like Yama, Gandharvas, Mriga, Pusha, Vitath and Kshat. In all the south direction yields nothing but mourning, depression and pain.

AGNEYA (SOUTH-EAST): Direction that lies midway between the east and the south is known as Agneya (south-east). Agni (fire) is the lord of this direction. He is the preserver and defender of every being. Agni also carries the message of people who worship and offer oblations with devotion to God.
Worshippers of Agni are economically strong and long living. Agni himself takes care of the people who make offerings into him. Agni also provides them with comfort, peace, prosperity and progeny.
While constructing a house, the first pillar must be erected in the south-east direction. Alternatively, kitchen of the house should occupy a place in this direction. This is the foremost and an important rule of VAASTU Shastra. First day of every month also represents the element fire.
A warm Agneya direction makes a man healthy, whereas a faulty use makes the owner short tempered.

NAIRITYA (SOUTH-WEST): It lies midway between the south and the west directions. Nairitya is the ruling lady of this direction. Literally, Nairitya means repeated happening – whether be it the birth of a baby or any other event. It also means that anything not done at proper time can’t have a repetition. If the house is built in this direction, the home suffers continuous decay.

South-west portion of the house should never be left open, nor should a pit be dug is this direction. This direction is an abode of demons and ghosts. To prevent the accumulation of inauspicious and pain causing things, digging of pit in south-west is prohibited. If for some reason, digging is necessary it should be covered as early as possible or a sapling be planted in its place.

VAYAVYA (NORTH-WEST): It lies mid way between the west and the north. Vayu (wind) is the lord of this direction. Five kinds of Vayu – Prana, Upana, Samana, Vyana and Udana are necessary for human life. Hanumana and Bheema are the representations of Vayu. Those who worship Vayu in the form of Hanumana, get their desired results at once.

North-west angle is the progenitor of friendship or enemity. Hence, a faulty use of this portion of plot may result in majority of the enemies. If you use this angle of your plot wisely and flawlessly, you will have many friends who will undoubtedly benefit you.

ISHANYA (NORTH-EAST): The angle that lies midway between north and the east is known as Ishanya (north-east) direction. Shiv is the lord of this angle. Pashupat is the weapon of Shiv. Nakshatra Ardra is the symbol of Lord Shiv. Semul (silk-cotton) tree is considered auspicious in this direction.
Worshipping of ruling God of this direction yields many virtues in the life of the worshipper. Portion of the house in this direction must be kept holy for it yields many kinds of divine powers to the owner. Proper utilization of this portion of house provides wealth, reputation, property and every kind of excellence for the owner. A faulty utilization of this angle, however, may block successful continuation of progeny.
From the following figure, we can learn about the direction easily!

SIGNIFICANCE OF THE DIRECTIONS
Directions continuously exert their influence on the human life. If the line that spans east-west in the middle of the house is used properly, the inhabitants get prosperity. This equator line is like the backbone of the house. If it is not used properly, it may lead to breaking of the owner’s backbone. If it is used properly according to the law of the nature, the house proves to be the most fortunate one for the inmates.

ISHANYAM ISHVARAY NAMAH
If the north-eastern portion of the house is well illuminated by the Sun, the inhabitants have full grace of the Lord. Amarkosh (a sanskrit lexicon) mentions the directions.

CHANGE IN NATURE ACCORDING TO DIRECTIONS

Nature of the house owner changes as per the orientation of its entrance. It is because of the influence of the planet that rules that direction in which the entrance faces.

If the entrance of a house faces east, its ruling planet the Sun makes the owner of the house abiding to the truth, ambitious and courageous. He would have particular liking for acrid vegetables like bitter gourd, fenugreek etc.

If the entrance is in the south-east direction, it is ruled by Shukra (Venus). Hence, the owner would have a variety of tastes and special liking for luxuries.

If the entrance faces south, it is ruled by Mangal (Mars). Accordingly, the owner would be courageous, haughty, outrageous and stubborn. He will specially relish spicy, delicious foods.
If the entrance faces south-west, it is ruled by Rahu. Nature of the owner will be according to it. He will be licentious, engaged in illegal activities, savant of cryptic scriptures and talismans etc. He will specially relish stale food.

If the entrance faces west, it is ruled by Shani (Saturn). Accordingly the owner will be serious, prudent, tolerant and responsible. He relishes food items cooked in oil and bitter and cold foods.

If the entrance faces north-west, it is ruled by Chandra (Moon). According to it, the owner is of instable mind, sentimental, fond of travelling and soft-spoken. He is also fond of eating vegetables cooked with excess of salt.

If the entrance faces north it is ruled by Brihaspati (Jupiter). Accordingly, the owner will be religiously inclined, altruistic, talkative and scholar of some particular subject and driven by whimsical fantasies. He is fond of sweet items as well.
If the entrance faces north-east, it is ruled by Buddh (Mercury). Accordingly, the owner will be intelligent, humorous, literateur and active. He relishes everything but in moderation.

CHARACTERISTICS OF AN IDEAL HOUSE
Our earth has a spherical shape flattened at the poles. Hence, an ideal house must have an oval shape. Expansion of earth is more in east-west directions, hence an ideal house must have an east-west expansion. Mid portion of the earth is bulging, hence mid part of the house must be somewhat elevated. The Sun illuminates the earth from the east, hence the main entrance of the house must face in similar direction. Sun is the creator, giver of life, hence it is worshipped in many countries since millennia.

ASITYASYNAMASKARAM YE KURVANT| DINE-DINE |
JANMANTAR SAHATRESHU DARIDRAYAM NOPAJAYTE ||
that is, those who salute the Sun daily remain immune to penury for many births. Purposely our ancestors have made it mandatory to keep the main entrance facing east, so that the sun rays could exert their beneficial effect on the magnetic field of the house. Sun rays are a sure way to energize life. Uttarayana and Dakshinayana (northward and southward) movements of the Sun have their unique significance. In this context, south-east and north-east directions too have their unique importance. These points are given special attention in VAASTU Shastra.
Most of the windows must face the east and the south directions.
Entrance of the house must face the east or south-east.
There must be more open spaces in north and east of the house.
Verandah must be kept in the east or south-east.
Source of water like well, tank, handpump or overhead tank must be in the north, east or north-east directions.
Terrace must be in the east or south-east on the first floor.
Thicker walls must be erected in the west, south and south-west directions.
Big trees must not be planted in the east or south-east directions.
Kitchen must necessarily be located in the Agneya Kona (South-east). Such a location will enable the kitchen to receive more sun and fresh breeze.
Stable, cattle shed and garage must be built in the Vavavya Kona (North-west).
Provide drainage for rainwater and used water in the Ishaanya Kona (north-east).
Drawing room, study room or any other important room related to administration of the household must be built in north or east direction.
Toilet, bathrooms, gutter, manhole as well as drainage for their effluents must be provided in Vayuvya Kona (north-west) or west.
Temple or worship rooms must be built in Ishaanya (north-east) direction.
Water storage tank, cooler etc. must be kept in Vayavya Kona (north-west).
Chest, lockers, almirah etc. which are used for storing valuables must be kept or provided with in the north or Ishaanya (north-east) direction.
PRECAUTIONS
Never keep or build water-storing or retrieving facilities in Nairitya Kona (South-west).
Never build bedrooms in Nairtya Kona (south-west) as sleeping in that direction will cause lot of nightmares. Thus you will never be able to have a sound sleep.
Kitchen must not be located in the west and Nairitya Kona (South-west) because the harmful rays that fall from those directions may spoil the taste of your food.
Build your toilet and keep dustbins in the west.
Unnecessary things should not be kept in Nairitya Kona (South-west).
AN IDEAL HOME
Everyone builds his home with an intention of cozy living. Similarly offices, commercial complexes, shops, cinema halls, theatres, hotels, restaurants etc. are built with a purpose of flourishing business. Churches, mosques, Guruduaras, temples are built for tranquility. Hence regardless of the specificity of the purpose, all these buildings must be built complying exactly to the principles of VAASTU Shastra keeping following things in mind:
The building must have ample open space all around.
Northern and eastern sides of the building must have more open spaces as compared to western and southern sides.
The building must be kept higher in the south and the west.
In three or four storeyed buildings, terraces must be provided in southern or eastern sides.
Balconies too must be provided in eastern or southern side. There should be more windows to the east and south as compared to north and west.
Thick walls must be erected in the south and west.
There should be more doors opening to the north and east than south and west.
Boundary wall must be raised higher in the south and the west than that in the north and the east.
There must be an even number of the doors and the windows (i.e. divisible by 2) in a building.
Verandah must be provided in the north or the east. Its ceiling must be kept at somewhat lower lever than rest of the rooms.
Verandah should not be provided in the south or west.
Thus VAASTU Shastra suggests house building strictly according to scientific methods so that the inmates can flourish in every way and enjoy all the comforts

. There are five physical elements in the nature:

KSHITI-JALA-PAVAK GAGAN SAMIRA |
PANCH TATVA YEH ADHAM SHARIRA ||

This sinister body is composed of five elements- earth, water, fire, ether and air. Hence the things composed of majority or minority of any or all of these elements must be kept near that element otherwise one has to face adverse outcome.
As, for example if electronic appliances, which have fire as major element, are placed with water, these will experience deterioration.
SHAPE OF THE PLOT
A plot of land is the first and foremost prerequisite of a building. While selecting a plot of land, you must be very careful regarding its shape and the omens related to it.
AYATE SIDDHAYASSARVASHCHATVRASTRE DHANAGAMAH |
KRITTETUBUDDHI VRIDDHIH SYADBHADRAM BHADRASANE BHAVEI ||
Rectangular (in which opposite sides are equal)shape of the plot yields perfection in every field, square shape yields wealth, circular shape of plot yields intelligence while Bhadrakar (many rectangular plots of land connected to one-another with their lengths decreasing sequentially while maintaining the basic shape) land proves beneficial in all ways for the occupant.
Apart from these, there are many shapes (though highly uncommon) in which plots are classified.
These shapes and their effects are as follows:
SHAPE
EFFECT
Spiral
Abject poverty
Uneven
Mourning
Triangular
Torture from the state
Cart-shaped
Loss of wealth
Rod-shaped
Loss of animal wealth.

PLOT’S LOCATION IN RELATION TO ROAD
One side opened plot, facing south and having path in the same direction. Such a southerly located path is assumed to be a path of Yama (the deity of death), hence buying such plot is unadvisable.
Plot facing south with ways on two sides (south and east). This location is considered good. Occupant of such a plot is a successful businessman or physician. Only one way is in use here.
Three side open, south facing plot with entrance in the south. This location is considered excellent for the iron merchants. New generations flourish well in such plots.
Four side open plot with entrance facing south. Such location is excellent for shops of betel leaves and electronic goods. It should have entrance in one side only.
One side open plot with entrance facing north, is considered excellent for householders. Middle class families live specially happy in such plots. It too has only one entrance.
Two sides open plot with entrance facing north is also excellent for the householders. Occupants live here peacefully. This plot too has only one entrance.
Three-side open plot with entrance facing north is excellent for commercial purposes. Cinema halls can be run successfully on such plots. It is also ideal for hotels and restaurants. It has only one entrance.
Four-side open plot with entrance facing north, is excellent for businessmen and householders alike. Occupants experience all round development. It has only one entrance. One-side open plot with entrance facing the east. Such location is excellent. Its occupants remain free from diseases life long.
SELECTION OF PLOTS ACCORDING TO SOIL
VAASTU Shastra gives special importance to the type of soil while selecting plot of land. In the famous scriptures of VAASTU Shastra, soil is classified according to its colour, smell and taste.
SUGANDHA BRAHMANI BHUMI RAKTAGANDHA KSHATRIYA |
MADHUGANDHA BHAVEDVAISHAA MADYAGANDHA CHA SHUDRIKA ||
TESTING OF SOIL
According to Maharishi Garg, one should make his home only on such plot of land where he naturally feels pleased. According to a very famous treatise VAASTU Ratna, one must sow all the cereals on the soil where he wishes to make his home. He must avoid the land where the cereals fail to germinate.
UNSATED LAND
Dig a cubit deep pit on the land where you wish to build your home. Now fill the pit with the soil you got from digging. If the soil fails to fill the pit completely, the land is not fit for your living. On the other hand, if the soil fills the pit completely and there still remains some soil, the land is suitable for your inhabitation.
In another method, the pit the filled with water. Then go at least one hundred steps away from the pit and return. If you find the pit half emptied, desert the land for it is not fit for you to make a home there. If the water level falls by only a quarter of the original, the land is good. If the water level does not fall at all, the land is an excellent one. Such a land, which eats it soil away and demands more or drinks all the water given to it is known as unsated land in common parlance. Inhabitants on such land can?t flourish in any way.
SOME OTHER TESTS
Such lands where nothing grows are known as barren lands. Inhabitants on such land trail behind in every field. On the other hand, inhabitants on fertile lands flourish in every way. In order to recognise fertile land sow some millet, pearl millets, wheat etc. and water them. If these cereals germinate within three days, the land is fertile enough to support your home.
Such lands where no agriculture is practiced or that remains uncultivated is known as maiden or virgin land. Such lands are also not fit for inhabitation. Such lands on which there already exist a well or small ponds are also not fit for habitation even after filling up the water body. Serious diseases afflict the inhabitants on such lands. They also lose their wealth and madly run after gambling, drinking and exorcism. There is also a fear of cursing them by their ancestors.
THINGS OBTAINED WHILE DIGGING FOUNDATION
All the things in the world are obtained from the earth. While making home, digging is carried out first to lay the foundation for future construction. Many things might be obtained while digging for the foundation. If things like coal, iron, lead, gold, gems and stones, crude oil etc. are obtained, the land is said to have a demonic nature. Retrieval of these things indicates disturbed living for the inhabitants. Things like cowries, tiles and tattered clothes also indicate the same. Retrieval of things like skull and bones indicates untimely death of the owner.
On the contrary, if cow’s horns, conch, shells, turtles etc. are retrieved, the land is considered auspicious. Retrieval of gravel and bricks causes acquiring of gold and wealth for the occupant from unexpected sources. If one retrieves copper while digging for the foundation, he gets all kinds of luxuries.
TESTING OF LAND FROM THE SURFACE
From the appearance of the surface land is divided into four categories:
1) Elephant?s back, 2) Turtle’s back, 3) Demon?s back and 4) Serpent’s back.
1) Elephant?s Back: The land which is somewhat elevated in the south, south-west, west or north-west directions is known as elephant?s back. Goddess of wealth, Lakshmi is said to inhabit such land. The occupants, naturally, grow rich and enjoy long life on such a land.
2) Turtles?s Back: The land, which is elevated in the middle and shallow all around, is known as Turtle?s back. Inhabitation on such land leads to greater enthusiasm, luxuries and accumulation of wealth for the occupants.
3) Demon?s Back: The land which is elevated in north-east, east and south-west directions is known as Demon?s back. Inhabitation on such a land leads to loss of wealth and children.
4) Serpent?s Back: The land, which is elongated in east-west directions and elevated in north and south directions is known as Serpent?s back. Inhabitants on such land meet untimely death. They also lose their wives, sons etc. and have lot of enemies.
SHAPE OF PLOTS
Perfect square or perfect rectangular shape of the plot is considered as best for construction of the home. All the four angles of the plot must be exactly of 90 degrees. Though a parallel tetragon has all the four angles, still plots with such shape are not suitable for making home. A perfectly rectangular shaped plot is also auspicious for making home, but its length ought to be one and a half times more than its breadth.
Such a rectangular plot of land that is elongated more in north-south directions than east-west is known as Suryabhedi (dissected by the Sun.)
If the walls are longer in north-south and east-west directions, the plot in question is known as Chandrabhedi (dissected by the moon). If home is built on such plot, clan of the owner does not continue.
REMEDIAL MEASURES FOR CHANDRABHEDI PLOT
Figure given here represents a plot dissected by the moon. Ill omens related to it can be removed by erecting a wall in the centre and dividing the plot into two almost equal squares. According to VAASTU Shastra, however, such a wall must not be erected exactly in the centre, but a bit southwards so that the northern square becomes a little larger. This piece must be given to the elder brother to safeguard his rights as big brother and avert fallial disputes.
AUSPICIOUS DIRECTION FOR ENTRANCE
The direction, entrance of your home faces, is very crucial about your personal development as well as for the development of your family. You may decide on this issue according to your Sun sign as given below:
1) Aries, Taurus and Aquarius: People belonging to these zodiac signs ought to keep the entrance to their homes in north.
2) Virgo, Capricorn and Cancer: People of these zodiac signs must keep the entrance to their homes in the south.
3) Sagittarius, Libra and Gemini: People of these zodiac signs must keep the entrance to their homes in the west.
4) Scorpio, Pisces and Leo: People belonging to these zodiac signs must keep the entrance to their homes in the east.
Regardless of their Sun signs, however, people may keep the entrance to their homes in the east for better. Next to it, they may keep the entrance to there homes in the north. Otherwise, follow the guidance of VAASTU Shastra.
SOURCE OF WATER
After acquiring of plot, location and construction of the water source is second necessity. The table given below explicity shows the possible effect of water source located in different directions of the plot:
LOCATION OF WATER SOURCE
EFFECT
South-east
- Loss of children
South
- Untimely death of wife
North-west
- Increase in number of enemies
North
- Comforts
West
- Owner obtains wealth
South-west
- Untimely death of owner
East
- Owner obtains luxuries
North-earth
- Owner obtains prosperity.
REMOVAL OF UNWANTED MATTER FROM THE PLOT
Things like iron, bones of animals, hair, teeth etc. that are retrieved from digging of the plot, are kept under unwanted categories. As long as these things remain buried in the plot, these may cause mental disturbances, nightmares, and incidents of fire, loss of children, live stock and wealth besides scores of other problems. These unwanted things must be unearthed and removed prior to starting construction. A simple method is given here to determine if there is any unwanted matter in your plot:
Take a whole piece of arecanut and the ask the owner to put it on the square in the figure given below. Effect of each of these letters is given below:
A: From the centre of the plot towards the east, human bones are buried at a depth of one and a half feet. These must be unearthed or the owner will meet untimely death.
K: In the south-west corner of the plot, bones of an ass are buried. Because of it the occupants will always remain in frightened condition.
Ya: In the centre of the plot, human bones are buried. Their presence may lead to untimely death of the occupant.
Ta: In the south-west corner of the plot, bones of a dog are buried. Because of these bones, children do not survive in the home.
Ai: In the western part of the plot, bones of a human baby are buried. Because of these, the owner has to undertake unnecessary travels.
Ha: In the north-western corner of the plot, coals are buried at a depth of one and a half feet. Because of these, the occupants suffer from frequent nightmares.
Sh: In the northern part of the plot, bones of a goat or fish are buried very deep. These cause abject poverty for the owner no matter how rich he might have been initially.
Pa: In the north-east corner of the plot, bones of a cow are buried at a depth of one and a half feet. These cause loss of cattle wealth for the owner.
Ch: In the southern part of the plot, human skull, hair, ashes etc. are buried at a depth of four feet. As long as these remain unearthed, occupants face untimely death.
The above mentioned method is a common one. It is not necessary that you do find something unwanted everytime. But as a precaution, you must apply this method to test your plot before staring constructions.
OMENS FOR STARTING CONSTRUCTION
People of almost all the religions believe in some kind of omens or auspicious moments. It is also said that well begun in half done. This saying applies fullest to the work that begins at an auspicious moment.
You can yourself see that there are many houses that remain half built. The main reason behind their unbuilt condition is that their construction was not begun at an auspicious moment and care was not taken of the omens then. Hence, begin the construction of your home at an auspicious moment only.
AUSPICIOUS MOMENTS FOR DIGGING FOUNDATION
Every three months, Shesh naga changes his position in the nether world Because of Shehsnaga?s movements. The direction that he faces also changes. Hence when the Sun makes a transition through Pisces, Aries and Taurus, Sheshnaga faces west. Hence, during that period digging for the foundation, must be started from the south-east.
When the Sun makes a transition through Gemini, Cancer and Leo, i.e. during the lunar months of Jyestha, Asharh and Shravana, Sheshnaga comes to faces north. Hencing during these period digging must be started from south-west direction.
When the Sun passes through Virgo, Libra and Scorpio, Sheshnaga faces the east. Hence during the month of Bhadrapada, Ashwin, and Kartik, digging must be started in north-west direction.
When the Sun makes a transition through Sagittarius, Capricorn and Aquarius, Sheshnag faces the south. Hence during the months of Margshirsh, Paush and Magh, digging must be started in the north-east direction.
From the figure given below, you can easily determine these directions.
According to VAASTU Shastra, digging of the foundation is prohibited in the following months:
1) Chaitra (March-April): If digging starts in these months, the owner faces great hardships. First entry into the home with a purpose of living is also prohibited during this period.
2) Jyeshtha (June): If the digging starts in this month, the planets become unfavourable for the owner. First entry is also prohibited.
3) Asharh (July): If the digging is started in this month, the owner suffers the loss of animal stock.
4) Shravana (August): If digging is started in this month, the owner suffers loss of wealth.
5) Bhaadrapad (September): Digging in this month leads to quarrels at home.
6) Ashwin (October): Digging leads to fallilial disputes in the home.
7) Kartik (November): If digging is started in this month, servants and subordinates run away.
8) Magh (February): Owner has to face the danger of fire in his home, if digging starts in this month.
Following months, however, are considered auspicious to start digging of foundation:
1) Baishakh (May): The owner gets unprecedented benefits if digging is started in this month.
2) Margshirsh (December): The owner obtains wealth if the digging starts in this month. This month is also auspicious to make first entry in the home.
3) Paush (January): Owners gets wealth if the digging starts in this month also.
4) Phalgun (March): All the desires of the owner are fulfilled if the digging starts in this month.
AUSPICIOUS NAKSHATRA
Nakshatra (stars) like Shravan, Mrigshira Revati, Hasta, Rohini, Pushya, Ashwini and all the three Uttra (Phalguni, Asarh and Bhaadrapad) are auspicious to begin the digging of the foundation.
AUSPICIOUS DAYS:
All days except Sunday and Tuesday are auspicious to start the digging of the foundation.
YOGA: Vaidhruti, Shoola, Ganda, Paridh, Vyaghata and Vraj, these Yogas are inauspicious.
KARAN: Naga, Bav, Taitil, Gara, these Karnas are auspicious.
LAGNAS: 2nd, 3rd, 6th, 7th, 9th and 11th Lagnas are auspicious.
AUSPICIOUS MOMENT: Morning is the most auspicious time to start the digging. If digging is started in noon time the digger has to bear a lot of pain. If it is started in the evening, family remains afflicted with disputes.
AUSPICIOUS DATES: 3, 5, 9, 11 and 13 are the auspicious dates.
AUSPICIOUS LAGNAS FOR THE AUSPICIOUS MOMENT:
Lagnas like Taurus, Leo, Scorpio and Aquarius are auspicious for the moment when the digging actually starts. If a horoscope is prepared for the moment, sinister planets must occupy 3rd, 9th and 11th house in it. There should not be a cruel planet in the 8th and 12th house. Planets like Guru (Jupiter), Chandra (Moon) and Shukra (Venus) must not occupy a lower house or remain stagnant.
POSITION OF THE LAND
Count the days from Shukl Pratipada (first day of brighter phase) till the day of digging of the foundation; days from Sunday to the day of actual digging and Nakshatras from Ashwini to the present one during the digging. Add all these three counts and divide the Sun by 4 (four). If the remainder is 1 (one), the land is considered standing. If it is 2 (two), the land is sitting. If the remainder is 3 (three), the land is sleeping and if it is O (zero) the land is awakened. Land in sitting position is considered as the best.
LAYING OF FOUNDATION
During Ashwini and Bharimi Nakshatras, foundation must be laid in the south-east corner. During Gurupushya Yoga and Nakshatras like all the three Uttara Phalguni, Asarh and Bhadrapada), Mrigshira, Shravana and Ashlesha, construction of home should begin on Thursday. The owner of such a home begets sons and properties.
If during the Nakshatras like Ashwini, Chaitra, Vishakha, Dhamishtha, construction is begun on Saturday and during Ardra Nakshatra it is begun on Friday, the home proves extremely auspicious and yields enormous wealth to the owner.
If construction is begun on Wednesday during Ashwini, Rohini, Purva Phalguni, Chaitra and Hasta Nakshatras the home proves very auspicious and yields wealth.
The Sun and the Moon occupy different positions in relation to the Nakshatras. On moonless night, Sun and Moon occupy same Nakshatra, whereas on full moon night, they are exactly opposite to each other. If the Sun and the Moon are from 8 (eight) to 18 (eighteen) Nakshatras apart, their conjugation is considered auspicious for the construction.
Brihaspati (Jupiter), Shukra (Venus) and Chandra (Moon) must be in their higher houses or their own houses or be in strong position during the laying of the foundation. Such a position yields all kinds of progress.
Position of the Sun at the beginning of digging also yields different results for the owner. Accordingly, if the Sun is in Aries, it yields reputation, if it is in Taurus, it gives wealth, if it is in Capricorn, it also gives wealth and if the Sun is in Aquarius, it give gems and precious stones.
AUSPICIOUS MOMENTS TO MAKE FIRST ENTRY:
A human being spends most of his time at home. If the home is auspicious, the man can pass his life peacefully. Hence auspicious moments (Muhurts) have extraordinary importance in astrology. Without an auspicious moment, no work is beneficial. Hence it is extremely important to consider an auspicious moment before making first entry into the newly built home.
According to Maharishi Vashishth there are three kinds of maiden entries.
APPORVSANGYAM PRATHAM PRAVESHAM YATRA VASANE CHE SA PURVSANGYAM |
DVANDVAHVAYACHAGNI BHAYADIJATAH TVEVAM PRAVESH STRIVIDHAH PRADISHTA ||
that is, the maiden entry into the newly built home is known as Apoorvasangyak. Maiden entry made after undertaking a journey is known as Sapurb Pravesh and an entry into a home that has been rebuilt after it was destroyed by fire, is known as Dvandvahva.
Other omens like Jogini Vasa, day, month, Dishashool, Yoga, Nakshatra, the Moon and the Sun are also considered for making a maiden entry.

For the south facing house, the Sun?s position at the moment of entry in the 5th, 6th, 8th and 9th houses of the horoscope is considered as sinister.
For the purpose of making maiden entry dextral position of the Sun and sinister position of the Moon in the horoscope are considered as auspicious.

BENEFICIAL LAGNAS
Tauras, Leo, Scorpio and Aquarius are auspicious Lagnas for maiden entry. Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius and Pisces are medium. Eighth house in the horoscope of the owner is always inauspicious for him as Lagna to make maiden entry.

CONSIDERATION OF YOGA

On a particular day, date, and during a particular Nakshatra, a particular conjuction or conjugation of day and date or day, date and Nakshatra results. One such conjugation, known as Amrityoga, is extremely auspicious for making maiden entry. One must avoid making maiden entry during Dagdh Yoga, Mrityu Yoga and Yamaghant. Apart from these, maiden entry is auspicious except during the five Ghati of Shoolyoga, half-part of Paridhyoga, six Ghati of Atiganda Yoga and nine Ghati of Vyaghrat Yoga. Maiden entry is totally prohibited during the entire period of Mritu Yoga, Vyatipat and Vaghriti Yoga.

PERFORATIONS OR PORES

In VAASTU Shastra, perforation or pore means obstacle that arises due to faulty construction. These obstacles should not be mistaken with physical obstacles. These are purely metaphysical in nature, but have far reaching consequences on the occupants of the house. A house, thus built investing earnings of whole life may appear attractive from outside, but its occupants have no peace of mind. A few of such obstacles (perforations) are discussed here:

1) Obstacle due to Door: This blocks free movement of air and the Sun. Because of it, occupants fail to fully harness the goodness of the Sun and fresh air.

2) Obstacle due to Orientation: Orientation of the house must not be fixed arbitrarily in any of the four directions – east, west, north and south. If a house is built with its orientation in any arbitrary direction, it may lead to loss of wealth and clan. If you have slightest doubt regarding auspiciousness of any direction, do not extend your house in that direction.
Even when you are planning to get your old house demolished and builds a new one in its place, do not violate the orientation and directions of the old house, or you will suffer obstacles due to faulty orientation.

3) Obstacle due to Angle/Corner: All the four corners of a house must have exact right angles. If any of these corners is less than or more than the right angle, such situation causes obstacles due to faulty angles or corners.
If a corner of a house falls exactly in front of the gate of another house, this also causes obstacle due to corners. If a house has three, five or more corners, it also suffers from obstacles due to faulty corners. Occupants of a house with faulty corners face untimely death, extra-ordinary diseases and extermination of clan.

WHAT CAN YOU DO TO CORRECT OBSTACLES

Don?t make a door at the centre of the house or at any joint.

If the house doesn?t have more storeys, don?t give a backdoor.

There should not be highway crossing, well, pond, gutter, corner of another house, big tree, pole peg, garage etc. in front of the main gate. These are not good from the security?s point of view.

There should not be standing water or mud in front of the main gate. Such things cause obstacle to free passage and weaken the foundation.

Obstacles due to peg: There should not a peg right in front of the gate to tether cow, goat or any other animal.

Creaking sound: Creaking sound that is generated by the movement of the doors, is also a bad omen.

Obstacle due to well: A well, man hole and water tank situated in front of the main gate or the house casting its shadow on it, is also an obstacle.

There should not be an oil expeller or gutter right in front of the main gate. Such thing indicates grave calamity.

Doors of the house should not vary in height, for then they cause serious obstacles.
Ladder or staircase right facing the main gate is also an obstacle.

N.B.: It should be noted here if the obstacle is situated at a distance double than the height of the house, its faults are removed. If there is a wall between the obstacle and the courtyard, the obstacle has no effect. Similarly if a through fare crosses between the house and the obstacle, the latter is rendered ineffective.

Obstacle due to Pillar: If there is a single column or pillar common between the two adjoining rooms, it causes enemity among the occupants. Each room must have its separate column. Also there should not be a column facing a door.

Obstacles due to learing: Such houses as attract learing gazes from the passers-by appear deserted with eerie atmosphere are said to have obstacles due to lear and sneers.

Obstacle due to hole: No space, even the size of a needle’s eye, must be left open at the backside of the house. There should be no hole on the back wall also. Such openings facilitate the entry of ghosts and demonic forces and pose danger of theft.

Obstacles due to portraits: Never adorn the walls of your living or any other room with portraits of tiger, lion, dog, panther, leopard, crow, owl, vulture, falcon or spooks, demons and war scenes for these cause serious obstacles.

Obstacles due to sculptures: Sculptures of above mentioned creatures also produce similar obstacles.
If both the storeys of a house are exactly the same in height, the situation causes obstacles. Such situation causes disintegration of the family. Hence, the upper storey must be kept about 1/12th part shorter in height than the lower one.

OBSTACLES DUE TO TREES
If there is a big tree right in front of the main gate, the situation causes serious obstacles. The older the tree, serious are the threats. Such trees, if fall ever by chance, will cause great harm to the house. Such a tree also weakens the foundation and there are dangers to be struck by lightning during thunderstorm.
Falling of shadow of a tree on a house, building, factory, etc. for more than a quarter of the day is also inauspicious. Such situation causes demonic virtues and serious diseases.

Presence of thorny trees in the vicinity of house is also inauspicious. Thorny trees cause pains, while fruit trees pose danger of theft.
Planting of banana, lavender, Champak (laurel), Ashok etc. at the main gate or along the boundary-wall is auspicious.

As per the scriptures, planting of Banyan in the eastern side of the house, sycamore in the southern side, Peepal in the western side and Pakur in the northern side, is considered as auspicious provided that the house is facing east.
Planting of basil sapling in the courtyard is extremely auspicious and important religiously.

OBSTACLE DUE TO FLAG
If the shadow of a temple?s flag falls on the house, the situation causes many obstacles. Because of casting of shadow of the temple’s flag on the house or vicinity of the house to a temple, the house comes under the domain of the ruling deity of the temple. Many things like toilet, bathroom, mensus in women, mating, childbirth etc. are common in households, but forbidden in the domain of the temple, and the occupants have to bear huge losses as a result. Ideally a house must be situated at least one hundred feet away from a temple. Similarly, a house must be situated away from the shadow of the hills and the trees. But these last two conditions do not apply to the houses in mountainous region.

OBSTACLES DUE TO LOCATION:

Obstacles due to location arise if there is a home of washers, hearth of a blacksmith, flour-mill or home of a childless couple just in front of the house. If there is a cremation site or parking place for the hearse carriers near the house, it faces grave obstacles due to location.

OBSTACLES DUE TO PATH

It is also an inauspicious sign if a house, factory or industry is flanked by a pond on one side and by garbage incineration site on the other. If such a building is situated at the junction of three paths, it is also considered inauspicious.
If a hill, huge stone or other unwanted hurdles face the main gate, the owner of the house experiences great obstacles at every step of his life.
If the two houses have a common entrance, their occupants experience serious miseries.
Presence of a pond, particularly triangular in shape, just in front of the main gate indicates bad omen.
If the boundary wall of a factory or shop is higher than the main building, the situation poses serious obstacles to the business. Owner of such premises is unable to raise capital beyond a certain limit.
Presence of ruins in front of a house, factory or industry is not an auspicious sign. Sighting of such ruins daily leads the person to fall ultimately forcing closure of his running business.

CONSIDERATION OF RAHU

Decission of keeping the main gate in a particular direction is most important before starting the construction. But it depends, to a large extent, on in which direction the plot is open i.e. presence of road, lane, bylane etc. in that direction. Location of the house and its orientation within the plot are also taken into account. VAASTU Shastra describes extensively regarding the position of the main entrance. The figure given below depicts the appearance of mythical VAASTU Purush and all of its thirty-two guarding gods. Position of main entrance must be decided accordingly.

There are four methods to decide the position of the main entrance.

According to the guarding deity:
Divide the length and breadth of your plot by eight and determine the length of each part. Each part, thus obtained, represents a particular segment on your boundary wall as depicted in the figure and is guarded by a particular deity.

If the plot is rectangular in shape, its lengthwise segments will be longer than breadthwise segments. But regardless of it, each segment will have only one deity. The figure also shows as to which part of the given boundary wall is auspicious to errect the main entrance. In the east, segments guarded by Jayant and Indra (3 to 4); in the south, segments guarded by Vrikatksat (12), in the west segments guarded by Pushpdant and Varun (20 to 21) and in the north, segments guarded by, Mukhya, Bhallat and Kuber (27, 28 and 29) are considered auspicious.

Possible outcome of erecting the main entrance on these segments are as follows:
In the East:
Jayant: Wealth, Reputation and Knowledge
Indra: Favour from the state.
In the south
(12) Brihatkshat: Benefit from the son.
In the West
(20) Pushpdant: Wealth
(21) Varun: Proper use of the wealth
In the North
(27) Mukhya: Wealth
(28) Bhallat: Wealth
(29) Soma or Kuber: Spiritual development

Thus, by having the main entrance on any of these segments, occupants of the house will face either north or the east while exiting and hence could avail themselves of the benefits related to these directions. Oval shaped or circular plots can also be divided into thirty-two segments similarly and position of main entrance for the house being built on such plots can be decided upon accordingly.

Determination of the Ninth Part: Great scripture on VAASTU Shastra Vrihat VAASTU Ratnakar writes:

NAVBHAGAM GRIHAMKRITVA PANCHBHAGAM TU DAKSHINE |
TRI BHAGMUTTARE KARYAM SHESHAM DVARAM PRAKEERTITAM ||

That is, divide the length and breadth of your plot into nine parts, and select the position of the main entrance by the following method. Stand on the segment where you wish to make the main entrance and leave five parts to your left-hand side and three to your right hand side. Apply this method regardless of direction.

3. DECISION BASED ON AUSPICIOUSNESS OF THE SEGMENT
As per the favorable directions, locations within a plot have been classified as excellent, mediocre and wretched. To determine these locations, draw a straight line that connects the central points on the northern and southern wall of your plot. Portions falling on to the right side of this line are termed as auspicious, while those on to its left side inauspicious. Similarly, draw a straight line that connects the mid point of the eastern and western walls. Portions on the northern side of this line are auspicious, while those on the southern side are inauspicious.

POSITION OF MAIN GATE IN RELATION TO OTHER DOORS

King Bhoj, The famous ruler of ancient Ujjain was a master of VAASTU Shastra also. He has himself authored an exhaustive treatise titled Samarangana Sutradhara on VAASTU Shastra. In the book, king Bhoj describes many positions of the main gate in relation to other doors of the house. A few of them and the omens related to them are discussed here.

UTSANGA: When the main gate and the main door lie in one line facing each other, the situation is known as Utsang. This position of the main gate is considered as excellent.

SATYA: When the outer main gate is slightly rightward of the inner entrance, the position is known as Satya. It is also very auspicious position.

APASATYA: When the outer main gate is situated slightly leftward of the inner entrance, the position is known as Apasatya. This is an inauspicious position.
When the outer main gate is situated towards the northern side of the inner entrance which faces either east or west, the situation is known as Prishth bhanga and is regarded as inauspicious.

Apart from the above mentioned positions, there are eight sub corners wherein, having the main gate has varying consequences.

A plot of land can have more than one main gate depending upon the number of roads and lanes surrounding it. In such situations also the main gates must face the auspicious direction and be situated in the auspicious corner. The basic concept behind selection of main gates position is that the occupants may face the north or the east mostly while making exit. That is why position of the main gate in north, north-east, east, north-east, south, south-east and the west, north-west directions is considered as auspicious.

DECORATON OF THE MAIN GATE
MOOLDWARAM NANYAIDWARAIRABHI
SANDADHEET ROOPARDDHYA |
GHAT PHAL PATRA PRAMATHADIBHISHCH
TANMAGALAOSHCHINVYAT ||

That is, the decoration of the main gate must be more than that of the other doors. The main gate must be decorated with the figures of urn, fruits and foliage, leaves, flowers, creepers, lion, swan etc.

VAASTU Rajvallabha dictates that the main gate must be built splendidly and decorated vividly. It should have more decorations than rest of the doors. It must be decorated with auspicious and religious insignia. OM, Swastika, urn mounted with coconut, goddess Lakshmi showering gold coins, cow, feeding a calf, figure of Kuldevata (tutelary deity) etc. is few such figures that can decorate the main gate. Idols of armed guards can be bas relieved on each of the two pillars comprising main gate.

DIMENSIONS OF THE MAIN GATE

STHANMUPDWARAMASHTAU DEVA IME KATHITAH |
TRIKARAM PANCHAKARAM SAPTKARAM DWARVISTARAM ||

That is the width of the main gate must be a multiple of 3, 5 or 7 and its height must be double than its width. Thus, if the width of the main gate is 3,5 or 7 feet, its height will be 6, 10 or 14. But in today?s context dimension of 3×6 seems ideal.
If the main gate is installed in the shape of a door, its frame should have a thickness of six inches on the sides while its threshold and sill should be nine inches in thickness.

Raised threshold is required to prevent the entry of the crawling insects and serpents. If the main gate in situated on a platform, raised threshold is not necessary.

The main gate should open inward and not outward. It should not touch the walls when opened. These thing preserve the accumulated energy in the house.

PASSAGE THROUGH MAIN GATE

Passage leading to the main gate and the one passing through it must be exactly the same. The passage leading to the main gate should be double in width than the one passing through it. It must have an outward slope as well. Such a passage adds to the beauty of the house and facilitates the entrance of Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth. If the main gate is somewhat higher, easy flight of steps should lead to it.
ENTRANCE, DOORS AND WINDOWS
Main entrance of a house must comply to its main gate in every aspect. It should have better built and decoration than rest of the doors but not more than the main gate.
For a house that has a greater number of doors and windows, it doesn?t matter if their total number is odd or even. There is no restriction on the number of the doors and windows and the directions they face. If a house has only one or two rooms, it should then have even number of doors and windows. Most of the windows and almirahs, however should be provided in the northern and eastern walls whereas western and southern walls should have minimum number of windows and almirahs.
All the doors, windows and almirahs should have their top in the same level i.e. they should be of same height. A door must face a door. If there is no provision of that, a window must be provided to face a door.
Doors of different storeys are usually situated one above the others. In such situation, width of the door in upper storey be at least three inches less than that of the lower storey. Top of all the doors, windows and the almirahs however should be at the same level in every storey.
Each room must have two doors. If for some reason, only one door could be given in a room, absence of the second door should be compensated for by a window. This allows ample of sun and air in the room, which is beneficial for the health of the inmates.
All the exit doors should open inward. This is also necessary from the safety point of a view.

COLOUR COMBINATION

Colours represent different wave lengths of a spectrum and are thus nothing but forms of energy. Their effects on the mind and the body are well proven now. You yourself might have experienced that sitting in a room with walls of a particular colour you feel melancholy, while in another room with different colour you feel happy. The implications are clear that you should choose only those colours that have pleasing effect to paint the walls of your room.
nature green green, sky blue, azure, light blue and white are such colurs with pleasant effects. Red has medicore effects.Pink leads to depressions, Bright red makes the occupant short-tempered and leads to loss of wealth. Black and chocolate colours too have inauspicious effects.

OPEN SPACES ADD BEAUTY TO YOUR HOUSE

Atharveda clearly dictates regarding the beautification of a house so that the occupants could pass their lives happily in it.
Accordingly, an ideal house must have ample open space around it allowing unabated ventilation from all the four sides. It should be provided with sufficient number of doors and windows as well.
Atharveda also dictates to have a door facing a door in a room so that the cyclical magnetic flow could be completed. Air flow is also unabated in such a room.

Savants of VAASTU Shastra have deeply analysed the necessity of open space in and around a house. They have concluded that a house should have maximum open space in the northern and eastern sides. Western side can have some open space while the southern side should have least or none. Open space in northern side yields wealth, while in eastern side gives brilliance, knowledge and fame.

MOON AND SUN REGIONS

Draw a diagonal line to connect the north-western and the south-eastern corners of your plot. Now it has two triangles – one in north-east and another in south-west.

The north-eastern triangle is known as the Sun region, while the one is south-west is known as the Moon region. Construction is the Sun region should be light while in the Moon region, it should be heavy, so that the Moon region could have more weight.

Thickness of the walls also should be less in the Sun region than those in the Moon region. The sun is rather mild in the morning, so the thin walls in the north and the east will allow the house to harness its goodness fully. But as the day progresses, the sun intensifies. From noon till evening, the sun is most intense. So the thick walls in the south and the west protect the inmates from the harmful effects of the intense sun all throughout afternoon session.

PLACE OF COSMOS IN VAASTU SPHERE

In you play chess, you might have certainly seen a chessboard. It has sixty four black and white squares crammed into a single, larger chequered square. Imagine your plot as an analogue of a chessboard and has sixty-four squares crammed into a single larger square. Even if your plot has a rectangular or oval or circular shape the same analogy applies well. Now mark out the central most four squares in your plot.
These four squares together represent place of cosmos. If you imagine that your plot has eighty-one (instead of sixty-four) squares crammed into a single, larger square, the central most nine squares will then represent the place of the cosmos in your plot.
A place of cosmos at the centre of the plot is the junction of all the eight directions. It should be, therefore, left vacant. In other words no construction should be carried out on the Brahmasthana or the place of cosmos and the same must be utilised as the courtyard. Since this place is frequently and commonly used by all the inmates, no heavy material should be placed here either.

VAASTU Shastra also dictates very clearly which type of construction should take place in which direction guarded by a particular deity.

SNANAGARAM DISHI PRACHYAM AGNEYAYAM CHA MAHANTAM| VARUNAM BHOJANAM GRIHAM VAYAVYAM PASHU MANDIRAM| BHANDARAM VAISYAMUTARASYAM, AISHANYAM DEVATALAYAM||

That is the bathroom must be in the east, the kitchen in the south-east, dining room in the west, the cattle-shed in the north-west, treasury room or chest in the north and temple should be built in the north-east direction. There is the presence of all the deities in a narrow space at Brahmasthana. As such it causes intense vacuum, because nature of all the deities is different. That is why, this place is regarded as belonging to Brahma and provision of having a courtyard at this place developed.
That is also why, there is a provision of construction all around the courtyard and providing it with lot of doors and windows. An open courtyard in the centre also plays an important role in exhausting stale air and general ventilation of the whole house. Hence, an open courtyard in the centre has been an integral part of the traditional Indian houses.
Following table gives a guideline as to which construction will suit which corner of your plot.

SOURCE OF WATER

Underground sources of water have already been discussed. Lets now discuss regarding the position of water storage tank installed on the roof.
In the construction of modern houses handy availability of water in kitchen, bathroom, toilet etc. has become topmost priority. In the modern life style, convinience related to handy availability of water cannot be ruled out. But these requirements can?t be met with fully from underground sources. By installing an overhead water storage tank, however water can easily be led to various outlet points in kitchen, toilet, bathroom etc. Consideration of direction is must for the installation of overhead water-storage tank.
If you have to get a water storage tank built or installed a readymade one on your roof; get it built or installed in the north-west corner or in the west. It should not be built or installed in the north-east direction, because heavy constructions is forbidden in this direction. In the north-western corner also, the water storage tank must not touch the northern wall. If you are intending to install a readymade tank in the north-west, make sure that it is not higher than the construction in the south-west direction. If south-west direction is free from any construction, you may get your tank installed in that corner also.

BASEMENT
Now-a-days with increasing population and decreasing space, basement is being built in more and more houses in order to increase usable floor area. Basement usually remains warm in winter and cool in summer. If you wish to build a basement in your house, keep the plinth level higher so that a ventilator can be provided in the basement.

TOILET
For the importance of toilet, it would be sufficient to say that all of us begin our day from the toilet. Since time immemorial, people started their days from open spaces, fields, farms etc. Even today, this is a common practice in the rural areas. But with changing life styles, toilets came to have an inseparable place in the house building. Efficient disposal of night soil is the main purpose behind getting a toilet built in the houses.

Two types of toilet are more common. 1) Separate and 2) Common with the bathroom. Now a days, people also want to have toilet attached to their bedrooms.
Wash basin and the mirror should be installed on the northern and the eastern walls.

There is no restriction regarding the choice of seat. You may get installed one of your choice- Indian or western.but facing south or west direction
The whole toilet system could be built in any direction except north-east, east and the north of Brahmasthana. Only the rules given below should be followed:
Orientation of the water-closet must be in the north-south direction.
Wash basin and mirror must be installed on the northern or the eastern wall.
Slope of the toilet floor must be in the north-east
Always give a window or ventilator in your toilet to admit ample of sun and fresh air. You may keep floral bouquet and air fresheners as well in the toilet.

BATHROOM
East is the most suitable direction to build the bathroom. But now-a- days, most people prefer to have a bathroom attached to their bedrooms. Hence bathroom can be built in the south-central, or the west-central positions as well, and attached to two bedrooms so that inmates of borth the bedrooms could use it. Slope of the bathroom?s floor should also be in the north-east direction and the mirror should be fixed on the northern or the eastern wall. Water supply must be from the north-east. Wash basin must be installed on the northern wall while shower should be installed on the western wall. Geyser and washing machine should be installed in the south-east corner of the bathroom.

KITCHEN
Kitchen is also an important part of a house. As every one knows fire is needed to cook the food, hence kitchen is preferably built in the fire angle or the south-east corner of the plot. Gas cylinder, stove, heater etc. should be placed in such an angle that the cook may face the east while cooking. In the standing type of kitchen, make sure that the northern end of the working table does not touch the northern wall. Drainage must be provided in the north-east. The floor must also have a slope in north-east direction. Drinking water, water-filter etc. too must be provided in the north-east. Shelf, cabinet etc. must be provided on the southern and the western walls. A window must be given in the eastern wall to facilitate air flow and admit more of the sun.
If it is not possible to build the kitchen in the south-east corner, build it then in the north-west corner i.e. in air angle that is friendly to the fire. All the other things, however, should be followed as directed in the preceding paragraph. A small family can have a common kitchen and dining room.

BEDROOM
Sleep is perhaps the most wonderful gift of nature to all the animals including human being. It replenishes the energy we lose during our waking hours. If for some reason, one is deprived of the sleep, he cannot work properly the next day. Hence, a comfortable and cozy bedroom is necessary in a house for the owner to have a peaceful sleep every night.
A bed room must preferably be built in the Moon region of the plot. South-west is therefore, the most favourable direction to have a bedroom for the owner of the house, if he wishes to have stability in his life. Besides south-west, extreme west and extreme south are also favourable to have bedroom. In these directions attached toilet/bathroom can also be built between the two bedrooms.
Kids’ bedroom can be built in the north-west direction.
Walls of the bedroom should be painted pink. Mirror and almirah should be kept in the north-west corner while television, telephone etc. may be kept in the south-east corner.
You should also not adorn the walls of your bedroom with the pictures of the gods and the goddesses and have treasury and storage of cereals in the bedroom. In their stead adorn your bedroom walls with the posters containing entrancing natural scenes

DRAWING ROOM

As per the position of the owner, many people visit one?s house. These guests are welcomed and treated in the drawing room of the house. The drawing room therefore should have enchanting decoration. It should have such a sitting arrangement that the host could face the east or the north while meeting the guests. Also the face of the host should be less illuminated than that of the guest. And if possible there should be a wall behind the host.
Showcase, almirah etc. should be given in the southern or the western walls. In the drawing room, the television and telephone etc. must be stowed in the south-east corner, whereas sofa-set, centre-table etc. should be kept in the south-west, west or the south direction. Flower pot and vase must be kept in the north-west direction.

Drawing room must be built adjoining the main entrance or the porch.

WORSHIP ROOM: THe most Important

North-east is the best direction to have the worship room. Its entrance of the puja room must face the west or the south. North is the abode of Lord Shiva hence His idol must be installed in the worship room so that we may face the north while worshipping. Alternatively, you may face the east as well while worshipping Shiva.
Idol of Ganesh must be installed in the south. Idol or picture of Hanumana should be installed in the north. Install the idols of all the other gods in such a way that you face north or east while worshipping.

STUDY ROOM

North-east or a space between east and central positions is considered excellent. Apart from these two, south-western corner or a space between the extreme west and central position is also considered better.

Walls of the study room should be painted in nature green or light yellow or saffron Kesaria. Green is governed by Mercury that rules faculties like writing and study. Yellow& Saffron is the colour of Jupiter, the ruler of mind. Picture or idol of Saraswati, the goddess of learning should be installed in the study room. Alternatively, you can have pictures of some religious teacher, parents and religious scriptures as well in your study room.

CHILDREN’S AND ENTERTAINTMENT ROOM
Children?s room should be build in the north-western corner. North-west is the angle governed by air and the Moon and gives energy thereby developing children?s natural curiosity and knowledge.
Room of a small kid should have ample toys but should not have anything that causes hurdle to the kid’s movements. It should also have sufficient ventilation. Teenaged kids may decorate their room as per their hobbies and interests.
Entertainment room must also be built in the north-west direction. But the means of entertainment should occupy the south, south-west or west direction in the room. North-east, north and east direction should be left vacant.
COURTYARD

Brahmasthana at the centre of the plot is the best location to have the courtyard. In this regard Brihatsanhita says:

SUKHAMICHCHHAN BRAHMANAM YATNADRAKSHED GRIHI GRIHAKTAH STHAM | ACHCHHISTADYUPDHAT GRIHPATI RUPATAPYATE TASMIN ||

Those, who desire for all kinds of comforts and richness, must take full care of the Brahmasthan in their plot. It should be reserved for the courtyard and no unholy and impure things like shoes and chappals, garbage etc. ought to be left in the courtyard nor should the toilet be built there.
If the courtyard is kept dirty, younger ones of the household will begin to disregard the elders of the family. Well or hand pump also should not be dug or bored in the centre of the courtyard.

DINING ROOM
Dining room must be built in the south-west corner or in the western direction. In the modern houses for the sake of maximum utilization of space, drawing and dining rooms are used commonly. Hence, locations up to west central and north west are considered ideal to have dining room.
You may build your dining room in the north also and have the treasury in it as well. Members of the family may dine sitting around the dining table, but a chair on one side must be left vacant. Except south, you may face any direction while dining. If you have no room for dining purpose, it will be better to dine in the kitchen itself.

DRESSING ROOM
Dressing and personal embellishment have been an integral part of Indian civilization since ancient times. Our literature abounds in the description of embellishments from tip to toe. That is why, dressing room has a place of importance in VAASTU Shastra. But in modern time, entire concept of dressing has come within the confinement of a single dressing table. Dressing room can be clubbed with the bathroom. South-west is the most suitable corner to have the dressing room. Hence, it can be built with the bedroom of the house owner. Alternatively, the dressing table can be kept along the eastern and southern walls of the bedrooms.

TREASURY
Modern age can aptly be described as an age of wealth. Only those people are regarded as successful who earn lot of wealth in less time. Kuber is the lord of wealth and the ruling deity of the north direction. Hence, VAASTU Shastra dictates to store wealth and valuable items in the northern parts that is under the domain of Kuber. Thus stored, the valuables see an increase in them. Treasury should never be kept in the bedroom or the drawing room. Colour of the walls of the treasure room should be yellow. In the mid-part of the northern wall, Shri Yantra or an idol of Lakshmi should be installed. The real treasury should be build or installed in the north-west corner. Same religious scripture must be placed on the treasury. A treasury of iron is considered as the best. which opens in the north direction as to get the blessings of Kubera.

VERANDAH
As per VAASTU Shastra construction of a house has two parts. 1) The Sun region and 2) The Moon region. In the Moon region, construction must be heavier than that in the Sun region. Verandah is a lighter type of construction hence, it must be built in the north-eastern corner. It can also be built in the north and the east directions as well.
Pillars supporting the roof of the Verandah should be round in shape. Regarding the construction of Verandah,
Vrihatsanhita says:

SHALATRIBHAGTULYA KARTAVYA VITHIKA BAHIRBHAVANAT |

That is, outside the floor area and having one third width of the rooms verandah or gallery must be built.

SAYASHRAYAMITI PASHCHAT SAVASHTAMBHAM TU PARSHV SANSTHIYA ||

That is, verandah could be built all around the house also.

BALCONY
Balcony should be provided on the northern or the eastern sides. If you have to build balcony in the southern and the western sides also, make sure that balconies in the east and the north are larger.

TERRACE
Terrace should be built in the north-eastern corner or alternatively in the north and the east. But its height must be less then that of the main house.

CANOPY OVER THE DOOR
Like terrace, door canopy also must be kept at a lower height than the main house. It should also be built in north, north-eastern or east, north-eastern corners. Outer pillars of the canopy should be round in shape than angular.

PORTICO
North-east is the most suitable direction to built portico. Its height also should be less than the main house. It protects the vehicle from the sun and the rains. Usually the roof of the portico serves as the terrace; but the two can be distinct as well.

STORE ROOM
South-central part of the plot is the best location for building the store room. Shelf and almirahs, however should be given on the southern and the western walls of the store room. To store lighter items, shelves can be given on the northern and the eastern walls as well.
If your plot is too small to accomadate a separate store room, you may build almirahs, as high as the roof, on the southern and the western walls. Thus built, the almirah will have ample storage capacity.

STAIRCASE
Stairs can be given to the inside as well as to the outside depending upon the need. It can be added anywhere in east-west or the north-south axis. Then the stairs should take a southward or dextral turn, so that the person who is riding them should take clockwise turn only.
Usualy, location of the stairs in the south, south-west and the west is considered as favorable. On the first floor, a little room is built to cover the stairs. If it is in the south-west corner its okay; otherwise there should be some construction higher than this in south-west corner.
Number of steps is a stair must be odd. That is divide the number of steps, you wish to get built, by three (3). If the remainder is two (2), the number is odd. Odd number of steps is auspicious and beneficial.
Ideally the height of each step should fixed at ten or twelve inches in the residential houses. But in public places, schools, hospitals, market complexes, etc. height of each step could be fixed at one foot to one and a half feet.

Servants or Helpers ROOM
In big houses rooms for the servants are also built. Arrangements for the staying of the servants, who always accompany the lord, should be made outside the main building. There is a great different between the mental, intellectual and pleasent mind of the master and his servants. Hence, servants quarter must be built apart because it castes adverse effects on the main building.
As per the dictates of VAASTU Shastra, servants quarter must be built in the south or the west and never in the north or the east directions.
If servant’s quarter has to be built in the southwest corner, its plinth level must be must at least a foot higher than the main building.
If servant’s quarter is to be built in the south-east or the north-west corner, it should be at least three feet apart from the eastern and the northern walls of the main building. If, you wish to build the garage, it will be better to have it in the south-western corner with servant’s room on the roof of it.

GARAGE
In the north-eastern corner, canopy or portico is built in which the vehicles make temporary halt. To park them permanently, garage is required. Garage must be built in the south-western or the north- western corner. If these corners are not vacant, garage can be built in the south-eastern corner as well but never in the north-eastern corner.
It is also necessary that the northern and eastern boundary walls should not be used as the outer wall of the garage. Instead it should be built at least three feet inside the boundary wall. If garage is built in the south-western corner, servant’s quarter can also be built on its roof.

ATTICS
Shortage in floor area is the main compulsion behind building an attic in a house. Thus, apart from proper utilization of space, ample storing room is available in the form of attic to store unused goods. In a house, an attic can be given in the down south or the extreme west direction and also in the south-west corner.

CATTLE SHED

GAUSHALA DARSHINATASHCHOTTARDESHE TU PASHUPVAHI SYAT||

That is, cattle shed should be built in the south and the garden in the north.

ROOM FOR THE AGED PEOPLE

Aged people require peaceful and serene atmosphere in which they could live healthy, undisturbed with no encroachment upon their honour. Also no interruption should occur in their regular worship and other routine tasks.

PURV DVAROPARANTE PASCHIM STAPA SAVASAM||

That is the aged ones who are now retired from the active life must occupy a room near the eastern side of the house or in the extreme west so that they can enjoy good health. Space between the central part and the north-eastern corner of the house is also suitable for the staying of aged people.

APARTMENTS AND FLATS

Apartments and the flats is now a very common sight in the big cities, thanks to the population explosion.
These buildings are populated by a large number of people within a limited space. Besides such constructions are also proving economical while maximum utilization of the space is achieved.
Here again, while building multistoried apartments and flats, attention must be paid to the plot of land and its location. East facing and north facing plots are excellent for such types of construction. But it should be noted that it is not possible to apply each and every principle of VAASTU Shastra to the construction of apartments and flats.
Still it is necessary to excavate unwanted buried matter from the earth and follow common VAASTU principles.
1) Principles regarding the land are equally applicable everywhere. Hence selection of land and excavation of unwanted buried matter must be conducted as per the dictates of VAASTU Shastra. 2) Height of the last storey must necessarily be somewhat less than that of the first storey.
3) Open space must be left all around the building. There should be more open space in the north and the east while in the west and the south it should be maximum.
4) Main gate must be given in the north or in the east.
5) Rectangular plot must be selected to build multistorey buildings. Such a shape of plot provides more common facilities and easy and better flow of traffic. 6) Slope of the land must be given in the north-eastern direction.
7) Car parking and common lawn etc. should be developed in the north-eastern direction.
8) While building multistoried flats, big hotels or cinema halls, ample open space must be given in front of the building. Two separate gates should be provided for the entry and exit.
9) Design of multistoried buildings should be such that the inmates of the lower floors could also get sufficient sun and fresh air.
10) Lift must be provided near the staircase in the multistoried buildings. Stairs should have a dextral rotation.
11) Water storage tank must be installed in the north-eastern corner of the roof in the multistoried buildings. Borewell can be used as a source of water. Drainage must be covered.
12) South-western corner of a multistorey building should be higher the rest of the constructions.
13) Each flat on every floor in a multistorey building should be provided with enough ventilators and windows.
14) Kitchen in each flat must be given in the south-east corner.
15) Toilet and bathroom in each flat must be built in the south-west corner or in the south direction.
16) Length and breadth of each flat should be exactly equal i.e. the flat should preferably have a square shape.
17) Generator, electric switchboards, transformer etc. should be installed outside the apartments in the south-eastern corner.
18) There should be no plants or trees exactly in front of the main gate. If you wish, you may plant basil and sandal in an open space.
19) Playground and garden should be developed in the north or in the east of the apartment.
20) Balconies too should be provided in the north or in the east.
21) Security room must be built in the north or in the south.
22) Apartments should not be painted in black, sky blue or red colours.
Thus even if half the principles of VAASTU Shastra are followed in the construction of apartments, far greater benefit can be achieved for the inmates to pass their lives peacefully.
HOUSES WITH COMMON WALLS
Houses with common walls are also common in big cities. The greatest benefit with these houses is that their construction is cheaper and easier while every inch of the space is used properly. But principles of VAASTU Shastra can not be followed in these houses, which leads to many kinds of problems.

Above figure shows two patterns on which house with common walls can be built. In the pattern where back wall of the houses H2 and H1 are common, H1 has an east facing entrance. So, H2 will compulsively have a west facing entrance and hence will not be able to trap sufficient sun. In the second pattern, houses H3 and H4 have a common sidewall. Their north facing entrances also comply to the principles of VAASTU Shastras. But there should be no community land in the north then.
If there is way in the south only, H2 will again have a faulty orientation with drainage in the south. Whereas inhabitants of H1 will enjoy all the benefits due to east facing entrance provided that no through fare passes along their entrance. Occupants of H1 cannot have their drainage in the east as well. Still they will be able to reap the benefits of direct sun and breeze of the east.
Houses with common walls are also not able to reap the full benefits of every auspicious and open direction.
Such houses should not have a common back wall. It causes serious obstacles. They should not have the entrance towards the right hand side, as it is also an obstacle. Thus houses with common wall are far from perfection according to the principles of VAASTU Shastra. As a result, the inhabitants or the occupants of such houses suffer every now and then from this kind of problem or that.

ROW HOUSES
Row houses are in a way an extension of houses with common sidewalls. In such pattern of housing, all the houses except those situated at the extreme ends share their sidewalls with one another. These houses prove extremely economical. Let?s now discuss the merits and demerits linked with row houses.

TABLE
The above figure shows a common pattern of row housing. All the houses from H2 to H5 have both of their sidewalls common with their immediate neighbours. Only H1 and H6 have only one of the sidewalls common with their neighbours while enjoying open space on the other side. Thus, houses in row housing pattern have the benefits of two common walls but at the same time both their sides are covered. Thus the inhabitants in row houses get the benefits of only two directions. More than often, they have only one open direction at their disposal. If that open direction happens to be the south, their houses compulsorily have the drainage in that direction. Such an arrangement proves inauspicious according to VAASTU Shastra.

In the figure, house number 6 gets the benefit of open east direction. Similarly house number 1 has an open west direction. But all the other houses situated in the middle part of the row have no way but face in the south. If some people on community basis agree to build their houses in a row, they should follow the principles of VAASTU Shastra though partially to avert havoc.
1) Number of houses in a row must be even. In VAASTU Shastra even number is considered as auspicious.
2) According to ancient VAASTU Shastra, one platform in the house is forbidden. Similarly a house should not have only one pillar.
3) Three entrances should not fall in a single line.
4) Number of stairs should also be even in a house.
5) Number of houses in a row should not be 4 or 13 for as per numerology, digit 4 belongs to Rahu.
6) If a house in a row-housing pattern is covered in the auspicious direction, it compulsively has to have its entrance in the south or in the west. Such orientation of the entrance is not good as per VAASTU Shastra, yet there are a few exceptions.
a) South facing entrance is auspicious for Cancerian and Capriconian people.
b) Sagittarian, Geminian and Libran people can live happily in houses with west facing entrances.
c) People belonging to other zodiac signs should better have the entrances to their houses in the east or the north.

COMMERCIAL COMPLEXES
With the ever increasing population of the country, villages are fast converting into towns while towns are taking the shape of megalopolis. The number of residential plots is also fast decreasing. Commerce and trade have taken the front seat in the new world order. That is why every now and then, new buildings are coming up to conduct commerce and trade practices. Such buildings are entirely devoted to commercial purposes are termed as commercial complexes. These are the gifts of modern world to humanity. In a modern commercial complex not even an inch of space is wasted or misused. Shops, offices and scores of other things are built in such complexes. Even oblique shaped space is converted into shops. Most of the ground area is used as parking. In fact all the principles of VAASTU Shastra cannot be followed in the construction of these complexes. Still, one should follow the principles of VAASTU as much as the location allows. A few precautions are discussed here.
1) Only a square or rectangular plot of land with all the four corners at right angles should be selected to build commercial complex.
2) Some open space must be left around the complex or cinema hall. Here again the open space should be maximum in the north and the east and minimum in the south and the west.
3) North-eastern corner is the best to develop as parking area and green belt in a complex.
4) General slope should be given towards the north east. Borewell should also be dug in the same direction or in the west.
5) South-western corner of the complex must be somewhat elevated.
6) There should be no big trees or poles around or in front of the complex.
7) Water tank should be built on the roof in the north-eastern corner. It can be safely built in the east, north and the west direction as well.
8) Drainage must be situated in the north or in the east.
9) Drainage of effluents should be kept in the south-west direction.
10) Main entrance to the complex must be situated in the north or in the east.
11) Height of the ground floor or the first storey should be somewhat higher than that of the main entrance.
12) Separate gates should be provided in the complex for the entry and exit.
13) Most of the rooms should be built in the northern or the eastern part of the complex.
14) Each office in a complex should have an attached toilet, which should be given in the south-west corner.
15) If necessary, godowns may be given to each office and shop in a complex. But the godown should occupy a place in the south or in the west.
16) Stairs should be given in the southern or western part of the complex with usual dextral rotation.
17) Balconies should be given in the north or in the east.
18) Every room in a complex should have such a proportionate length and breadth as is facilitating to the easy flow of breath. Every room should also be provided with proper ventilation and exhaust pipe.
19) If the complex is 45 feet or more in height, it must necessarily be provided with a lightning conductor.
20) All the floors of a complex should have equal height.

SITTING ARRANGEMENT IN AN OFFICE
According to Feng Shui (the Chinese equivalent of VAASTU) deeper a space you take in your office, the better it will be for you.
If you are the boss, you should not sit with your back facing the main door or the door of the cabin. Neither should you take a seat immediately beneath the beam, in the corridor and at the end of a long passage.
If there is an angular obstacle at the place of your sitting, correct it with a flower pot with natural flowers. You should then make your sitting arrangement at the inner angle placing your furniture slightly oblique.

CHAMBER OF THE MANAGER AND DIRECTOR
Chamber of the manager or the director should face the north and the manager or director should himself occupy his seat facing the north. His or her chair should be placed just opposite the door. In the banks, passage from the entrance to the manager?s chamber must turn right. Cash counters should not be situated in the south-west direction. This corner should be used to store waste paper and other materials.
Sitting arrangements for the employees should be made in the east or in the north. No employee, however should take a seat just beneath a beam, for he may then commit a blunder in calculations and other tasks assigned to him.
Bank lockers can be built in the south as well as in the north. Toilet of the banks should be built in the south-western direction.
Traders and merchants also have their seats facing north or the east and keep their cash box in the north-eastern corner or in the north. They should paint the walls of their office in green or yellow.

SYMBOLIC VAASTU SHAASTRA
Symbolic VAASTU Shaastra is a discourse of symbols. No planet or heavenly body does direct harm or provides direct benefits but manifests its influence through symbols. Everything that you see around you is in fact a symbol. You have the power to understand the relation it has with rest of the world. This learning of how to analyse the incidents that occur with us constitutes the main body of symbolic VAASTU Shaastra. Suppose you are going somewhere and see a cow in the way and if your task is finished successful you will certainly give credit to seeing the cow in the beginning. But if you see an ass at the onset and return unsuccessful, you will blame the omen for your failure. These simple incidents show the relation between the person and the universe.
Suppose again that material losses begin to occur in your household immediately after you built your toilet in the north-eastern corner. This also shows a link between the person and the universe. Nothing happens abruptly in the world. Everything takes time to mature and bear fruits. If you are suffering economic hardships, surely you must be having some misfitting symbol in your house.
There is certainly a power in the universe that settles the destiny of human being as per his deeds. Planets are simply symbols to show that, indications that show that all is not well with a person. That is why, high degree of conformity is found between the events on earth and the planetary positions during those events.
In one case, a man did not have any child even after many years of marriage. He and his wife were declared physically fit in medical check ups. So the case was brought in for astrological scrutiny. But the horoscope of the man was also not available. So his bedroom was examined. It was found that his iron bedstead was broken and the cushion on it was also in very shabby condition and was covered with black sheet. Thus the condition of the man?s bedroom clearly indicated that Venus was not well placed in his horoscope.
If the Venus is well placed in the horoscope only then one gets comforts of the bed. Cosy bed and the enjoyments related to it are ruled by Venus. But if the bedstead itself is broken, how can Venus be good. Broken bedstead of iron with a shabby cushion on it and that too covered with black sheet, all these combinations show that Venus is overridden by Saturn. In other words, Saturn has outsmarted Venus in exerting influences. Detailed medical examinations later revealed that the man was having only a fewer sperms in his semen and hence impotent.
Thus the dire shabby condition of the bedstead on which the man and his wife used to sleep after their marriage showed badly placed Venus in his horoscope. This is the discourse known as symbolic VAASTU Shaastra.
COMMERCE AND SYMBOLIC VAASTU SHASTRA
JEWELLERY SHOP: Mostly gold and silver items are traded through jewellery shops. These items are primarily ruled by Venus. Hence the business of Jewellary is the domain of Venus. To promote the sales of jewellery, therefore, pretty sales girls ought to be appointed at the jewellery shops. Venus also represents beautiful and fortunate women. Hence, the presence of pretty sales girls on the counter will strengthen their sales and reap rich profit.

CUTLERY SHOP AND BEAUTY PARLOURS
Cutlery shop and beauty parlours are also the domain of Venus. If symbols related to Venus are used profusely, these shops can also be run in profit. Accordingly, a silver coin ought to be put in the south-east corner of the shop. Cutlery and beauty parlour are the trades mainly dominated by the women. Most of the customers at these shops are women and the south east corner is the abode of Venus. Silver too is a symbol of Venus. Hence, installation of silver coin in the south-east corner will result in an increase in the influence of Venus and thereby making the venture a profitable one.

TRADES DOMINATED BY VENUS
Proper colouring of the business premises is an integral part of VAASTU. Similarly, symbolic naming of the business is also indispensable from the principles of VAASTU Shastra.
Venus is a royal planet. Trades like music, art, hobbies, photography, film, theatre, cosmetics, beauty parlour, hotels and those that involve active interaction with the womenfolk, are all the domains of Venus. If these businesses are given feminine names like Vaishali, Geetanjali, Menaka, Urvashi etc. they have brighter prospect.
Natraja is an epithet of Lord Shankar. Being related to the art of dancing, the name Natraja symbolises Venus. Hence discotheques, theatres, studio etc. could be named as Natraj.
But never name these above mentioned business after the names of gods and goddesses because gods and goddesses symbolises Guru (Jupiter). Jupiter and Venus are unfriendly with each other, hence if named after god or goddess, serious frictions may appear in the business.

TRADES DOMINATED BY JUPITER
Jupiter is considered as one of the extremely auspicious planets. If Jupiter is strong in one?s horoscope, it nullifies the adverse effects of other weak planets and hence saves the native from undue sufferings. If, however position of Jupiter is weak, one should make the use of symbolic VAASTU Shastra.
Influence of those, Jupiter is strong in whose horoscope, can be seen in their family, social circle and other fields. Those with weak Jupiter don?t get due respect in family, society etc. Those involve in the business dominated by Jupiter must wear the symbols of Jupiter like yellow clothes, Tilak (mark of sandal and turmeric paste on the forehead), religious scriptures, Janeu (sacred thread round the shoulder), rosary beads, topaz etc.

CORRECTION OF VAASTU FAULTS
There is no mistake anywhere in the creation, and the rules that govern it. But in the man-made creations, abidance by each and every rule of VAASTU Shaastra is definitely difficult if not entirely impossible.
It is therefore, extremely difficult to build even a single structure ideally following the dictates of VAASTU Shaastra. Most of the VAASTU faults manifest themselves only after they have been committed. Some of these faults can be corrected altering the pattern of construction. Help of an expert VAASTUkar must be taken to deal with those faults which are well nigh impossible to correct otherwise. Corrective measures for a few common VAASTU faults are given here.
INTERNAL ARRANGEMENTS
In the entire plot, moon region must be heavier in comparison to the sun region. If the construction has not followed this rule, then the heavy goods in each room must be kept along the southern and the western walls. Northern and the eastern walls must be left vacant as far as possible. Heavy double bed, steal almirahs, dressing table etc. should be kept in the moon region of the bedroom. IF you can?t afford to leave northern and eastern walls vacant, place their lighter goods.

INTERNAL ARRANGEMENTS IN RELATION TO THE ANGLES
It is very difficult to demolish even those houses, which have serious VAASTU faults. But still it would be preferable if all the corners of these houses are used properly according to the dictates of VAASTU Shaastra.

NORTH-EAST: Soma and Rudra are the ruling deities of this corner. Hence it is regarded as the supremely sacred corner. Entrance, portico, worship room, meditation room and water-storing facility must be given in this angle. Follow a few simple things to keep this corner in balance.
1) Always keep the north-eastern corner of your house clean and don?t allow even little garbage to collect there.
2) Always keep a water pot, filter or camper in the north-eastern corner of your room.
3) Fix a beautiful picture or poster depicting rivers, sea, clouds etc. on the north, north-eastern or east, north-eastern walls. But don?t nail the poster, fix it with the help of tape.
4) Don?t drive nails and pegs in the north-eastern corner.
5) If you have an almirah or shelf in the north-eastern corner, don?t put heavy things there.

SOUTH-EASTERN CORNER: ANGLE OF FIRE
Agni is the presiding deity of this corner, hence kitchen is built in it. You may adopt following measures to achieve balance in this corner.
1) If your bed room in the south-eastern corner, you should change it for better. If it is not possible then orient your bed along the north-south axis with head towards the south.
2) A night bulb must be kept lighting in the south-eastern corner.
3) Drawing room can be built in the south-east
4) Picture of the rising sun can be fixed in the south-eastern corner.
5) Main switch, fridge and other electric gadgets should be installed in the south-eastern corner.
6) Electric fitting of the house must be of the excellent quality.
7) If the kitchen is not in the south-east, cook or anybody who is cooking, must take extra precaution while cooking.

SOUTH WESTERN CORNER
Demon represents this corner hence extreme caution must be observed while constructing anything here. An unbalanced south-western corner leads to sudden accidents in life.
1) Any construction in the south-western corner must be in perfect right angle.
2) If this corner has a cut, place a mirror there in the room so that the cut end is not seen with prominence.
3) If south-western corner is extended, install a small bulb on the roof leaving the extended corner and another bulb in the north-western corner. Keep these two bulbs lighting all long the night every day.
4) Fix a picture of pretty and fortunate woman in the south-western corner.
5) Always put heavy goods in the south-western corner of your room.

NORTH-WESTERN CORNER: Pavandev represents this corner. Pavandev is known for his unstable nature. If north-western corner is unbalanced, the owner of the house suffers from mental instability and insomnia.
1) Owner of the must not have his bedroom in the north-western corner; he can have his study room here.
2) Don?t leave this corner desolate.
3) Put a clock with sweet alarm in this corner.

CORRECTION OF FAULT DUE TO PRESENCE OF HIGH RISING BUILDING NEARBY
If there is a high rising building near a house its ill effect will surely be shown on the house. Owner of the lower house suffers from inferiority complex and fails to concentrate in his work.
1) Place the mirror in your house in such a way that the image of the high rising building doss not reflect in it.
2) Make strong lighting arrangements in your house.
3) Install an anemometer on the roof of your house. This instrument comes with an arrow. The arrow should point to the high rising building.
The last measure can also be used to correct the obstacles due to angles. If the corner of another house comes to face your main gate, a serious obstacle results, known as Konavedh or obstacle due to corner. But this obstacle is effective only if the distance of the corner is less than the height of your house.

CORRECTION OF BEAM FAULT
Beam is an important part of a building?s construction. It is provided to bear the weight of the building. But if somebody has to sit just beneath a beam, he or the she feels under unnecessary pressure. You should therefore
1) Do not sleep or do anything just beneath a beam.
2) Cover the beam with false-ceiling or tiles etc.
3) Provide bamboo poles of equal lengths on both sides of the beam.

USE OF FLOWERS
If the bedroom and the drawing room have serious faults, fresh flowers should then be stowed in such rooms daily. Thus, the ambience of the room will be enchanting with fresh fragrance of flowers. Artificial plants and flowers with realistic look will also do in this regard.

CORRECTION OF FAULTS BY AQUARIUM
The north-western corner of the room inspires the thoughts of the owner towards progress and imparts dynamism in his life. Hence, faults related to north-western corner can be corrected by putting an aquarium in that corner. Fish remain in constant motion in an aquarium. Water in it also bubbles with life. Such a dynamic system as an aquarium aptly suits the north-western direction in every aspect.

BUILDING MATERIALS AND QUALITY
Only high quality building materials must be used in the construction of house. Bricks and stones are the most common and extensively used building materials used because of their high weight bearing capacity. Of the two, stones are quarried directly from the mines while bricks are made from mud and heated in kilns to impart toughness. Granite is the most widely used stone because of its brightness and colour. It can also be chiseled into desirable shapes. But the high content of quartz in granite adversely affects the health. So a wall of granite adversely affects the health. So a wall of granite should invariably be given a good coating of lime to cancel the adverse effects of quartz.
Stones used for building purpose should have uniform colour, be tough and feel good to touch.
Religion is, in a way, the soul of Indian culture. In every walk of life, conduct with a clear inclination for religion is given importance. Building a house is no exception as Vishvakarma Prakash says:

ANYATRA SKHALITSHILA VISHIRNA MACHCHHIN SANSKARAT||

That is, building materials that are strewn here and there should not be used for house building purposes. Also no material should go into the house building without the consent of the owner or it will prove inauspicious.

NA NAV PURAN YUKTAM NA PAKVAMANEN CHAIV SANYOJYAM

That is, old and new bricks and stones should not be used in combination. Similarly, hard and soft bricks should not be mixed also.
Regarding the quality of bricks, Maya Danav says:

SUGHANAH SAMADAGDHASHSH SUGVARASMCHUSHTAKAM SUHBHAH||

That is, the bricks should be uniformly baked and dense and should produce clear clanking sound on collision.
WOOD: There is a wide and comprehensive description in VAASTU Shaastra regarding the quality of wood. But to follow each and every dictate of VAASTU, one will have to scout the forest in order to search the wood of his choice. So, wood mart is the only refuge for the buyers of today. Woods of cedur, Shisham (Indian rosewood), Sal, teak, jackfruit etc. are most suitable for the building purposes. Here again, you should not make any compromise regarding the quality of wood. Now-a-days composite wood are the best substitute for natural wood. Quality wise also, composite wood are much superior to natural wood.

THE BENEFITS OF FENG SHUI
Five physical elements viz. water, fire, earth, gold and wood form the basis of Feng Shui. If the relative proportion of these elements is correct, the occupant of the house leads a happy life or he will have to suffer from scores of problems.
According to the beliefs of Feng Shui, these five elements depend upon the time of one’s birth. If, for example, a person is born at 3 p.m. in the afternoon, he or she will have water as the most favorable element. Such a person should begin the construction of his/her home from the west or south-west. The following table gives a brief profile of these elements.

WORSHIP OF VAASTU

VAASTU PUJAM PRAKURVIT GRIHARAMBHE
PRAVESHANE CHA|

Before you start the construction of your home, first of all, the land should be worshipped and then the digging for foundation should be carried out. When the house is ready you should formally worship Ganapati (Lord Ganesh), Punyah Vachan, Matrika, Vaishvadev, VAASTU Kundal Navgrah. You should spend tenth part of the cost of the house in VAASTU Pujan (worship of VAASTU). It is clearly mentioned in Vishwakarma Prakash:

ASHRIYAM MRITYUMAPNOTI VIGHN TASYA PADE PADE|
VAASTU PUJAM AKURVANAM TAVAHARO BHAVISYATI||

That is, those who do not worship VAASTU because of the fears of over spending, infidelity or lethargy, lose their wealth and luxury, meet obstacle at every step and fall prey to untimely death. Such people have to bear the anger of VAASTU Purush as a result. Hence, every prudent person should worship VAASTU Purush without fail.
There are provisions of installing different kinds of VAASTU Peethas (platforms) for worshipping VAASTU Purush.

Only the carpet area of the plot is considered to install the platform for VAASTU worship. Thus, VAASTU with one to one thousand steps is worshipped. For common households, worships of VAASTU with eighty-one steps are most prevalent. For the temples, royal palaces, villages etc. VAASTU with sixty-four steps is worshipped.

EKASHITI PADAMVAASTU GRIH KARMANI SHASYATE|
CHATUHSHASHTHI PADAM VAASTU PRASADE DEV BHUMUJAM|| WORSHIP OF VAASTU

One day before the actual worship, purify your body by observing penance (in the form of fast and other restraints). Next day, before the actual worship starts, take bath and practice Pranaayam. The Brahmins in the mean time should recite the scriptures to sanctify the ambience.
Thereafter bow your head before Lord Ganesh and other deities and make resolution with following hymn:

OM AGYA, AMUK MASE (Month?s name), AMUK PAKSHE (Name of the lunar phase), AMUK TITHIYE (date) AMUK VASARE (day), AMUK NAMADHEYO (your name) YAGYAMANOHAM SAPATNI SAPUTRA, SAPARIVAROAHAM MAM. SARV APAD SHANTI PURVAKAM DEERGHAYU VIPUL DHANA DHANYA, PUTRA PAUTRADI ANAVACHCHHINN SANTATP VRIDHI STHIR LAKSHMI KIRTI LABH SHATRU PARAJAY, SADA ABHEESHTH, SIDDHI TRAPUSI SAKA KANSYA, LOHA, PASHANADI ASHTA SHALYA MEDINI DOSH PARIHARARTHAM TATHA CHA BHAWAN DOSH PARIHAR PURVAKSARV ARISHTH UP SHANTYARTHAM ASMIN GRIME CHIRKAAL NIVASARTHAM PARMESHVAR PREETAYA SAGRAHA MARVAM SHALA KARMPURVIKAM VAASTU SHANTI KARISHYE

Recitation of the above hymn should be followed by Digrakshan (protection of the direction), Kalash Pujan (worship or Urn), Deep Pujan (worship of lamp), Ganpati Pujan (Worship of Lord Ganesh), Punyah Vachan (recitation of holy hymns), Shodash Matrika Pujan (Worship of sixteen deities), Vaishvadev Sankalp (resolution to make offerings), Ayushya Mantrajap (recitation of hymn for long lide), Nandi Shradh, Brahmin Varan etc.
SHALA KARMA
At the centre of the plot, measure as much land as you can with the diagonal expansion of your hand from the tip of the thumb and tip of the little finger. Make an altar on this piece of land and light the fire in it. Then pouring pure ghee on fire, recite the following hymn:

OM ACHYUTAY BHAUMAYA SWAHA
IDAM ACHYUTAYA BHAUMAYA NAMAM|

While reciting this hymn, sprinkle ghee on each of the pillar and recite

OM STAMBHAYA NAMAH|

At the centre of the plot then build an altar that is one cubit in size and install the platform of VAASTU deity with eighty-one steps on the south-western corner of the altar. With five Bhusanskaras (Consecrations devoted to land) light fire in the altar.

INSTALLATION OF VAASTU DEITY
After making VAASTU Platform with eight-one steps take some water in hand and make resolution:

ADYETYADI PRARABDHASYA KARMANAH SANGATA SIDDHAYARTHAM VAASTU MANDALE DEVATNAM STHAPANAM PUJANAM ACHANAM KARISHYE |
Then install four small pillars on the four corners of the VAASTU Peeth one in each corner.
VISHANTU BHUTALE NAGALOKAPALASHCH SARVATAH |
ASMIN GRIHEAVATI SHTHANTAM AYURBALAKARAH SADA ||

With this hymn, twist the sacred thread into double and tie it around the pillars. Then starting from the fire angle (south-east corner) make oblation of urad dal and cooked rice near each pillar with the following hymns in sequence:

AGNIBHYOAPYATH SAROEBHYO YE CHANYE TAN SAMASHRITAH BAHIM TEBHYAH PRAYACHCHHAMI PUNYMODANAMUTTAMAM|
AGNAYE IMAM BALIM SAMARPAYAM||1
NAIRITYADHIPATISHCHAIV NARITYAM YE CHA RAKSHASAH|

NAMO VAI VAYURAKSHOBHYO YE CHANYE TAN SAMASHRITAH|
BALIM TEBHYAH.. VAYAVYAM IMAM BALIM SAMARPAYAM||3
RUDREBHYASHCHAIV SARPEBHYO YE
CHANYE TAN SAMASHRITA|
BALIM TEBHYAH | ISHAANAM IMAM
BALIM SAMARPAYAMI|| ..4

Then, with the help of a gold or silver pin, draw ten lines along east-west axis and invoke their deities with the following hymn

SHANTAYAI NAMAH| YASHOVATYANI NAMAH| KANTAYAI NAMAH| VISHALAYAI NAMAH| PRANAVAHINYAI NAMAH| SATYAI NAMAH| SUMATYAI NAMAH| NANDAYAI NAMAH| SUBHADRAYAI NAMAH| SURATHAYAI NAMAH|
Similarly draw ten lines along north-south axis and invoke their respective deities:
HIRANYAYAI NAHAM| SUVRATAYAI NAMAH| LAKSHMYAI NAMAH| VIBHUTYAI NAMAH| VIMALAYAI NAMAH| PRIYAYAI NAMAH| JAYAYAI NAMAH| JWALAYAI NAMAH| VISHOKAYAI NAMAH| IDAYAI NAMAH| and REKHA DEVATABHYO NAMAH

Thus you have invoked all the deities representing the lines.
Now its time to invoke all the deities present in VAASTU Mandala (VAASTU?s sphere) with the following hymns:

1) Shikhine Namah Shikhin Avahaymistha payami. 2) Parjanyay Namah, 3) Jayantay Namah, 4) Kulishayudhay Namah, 5) Suryay Namah, 6) Satyay Namah, 7) Bhushay Namah, 8) Akashay Namah, 9) Vayavye Namah, 10) Pushne Namah, 11) Vitakshay Namah, 12) Grihakshatay Namah, 13) Yamay Namah, 14) Gandharvay Namah, 15) Pitribhyo Namah, 18) Dayvapikay Namah, 19) Sugreevay Namah, 20) Pushpdantay Namah, 21) Varnay Namah, 22) Asuray Namah, 23) Shoshay Namah, 24) Papay Namah, 25) Rogauy Namah, 26) Ahaye Namah, 27) Mukhyay Namah, 28) Bhallat Namah, 29) Somay Namah, 30) Sarpay Namah, 31) Aditye Namah 32) Ditye Namah, 33) Apaya Namah, 34) Savitreuy Namah, 35) Apaya Namah, 36) Rudray Namah, 37) Aryane Namah, 38) Savitre Namah, 39) Vivasvate Namah, 40) Vivudhay Namah, 41) Mitray Namah, 42) Rajyakshmane Namah, 43) Prithvidharay Namah, 44) Apatvyasay Namah, 45) Brahmane Namah, 46) Charamyai Namah, 47) Vidarye Namah, 48) Putanye Namah, 49) Pasrakshyai Namah, 50) Skanday Namah, 51) Aryamne Namah, 52)Jrimbhkay Namah, 53) Pilipichchhay Namah, 54) Indray Namah, 55) Agnaye Namah, 56) Yamaye Namah, 57) Nairitye Namah, 58) Varunay Namah, 59) Vayave Namah, 60) Kuberay Namah, 61) Ishaanay Namah, 62) Bralimane Namah, 63) Anantay Namah, 64) Agrasenay Namah, 65) Damaray Namah, 66) Mahakalay Namah, 67) Pilipichchhay Namah, 68) Hetukay Namah, 69) Tripurantkay Namah, 70) Agnivaitalay Namah, 71) Asivaitalevy Namah, 72) Kalay Namah, 73) Karakay Namah, 74) Ekapaday Namah, 75) Bheemrupay Namah, 76) Khechray Namah, 77) Talavasine Namah.

After invoking all these deities worships all of them with all your might reciting the hymn:VAASTUMANDAL DEVABHYO NAMAH
Then worship the personified idol of VAASTU.

Construction of the house can be started now. When the construction is over and the house ready to live in, rituals have to performed again before actually shifting into your new home. After worshipping the main gate, enter the house and keep the urn you are carrying in the north-eastern corner of the kitchen. Then carry out a Havan in your house to please all the nine planets. Starting from east, tie the sacred thread around your house and sprinkle water mixed with milk everywhere in the house. Then dig a pit in the south-eastern corner of your plot and put the urn and the idol of VAASTU in it and fill the pit again with water and soil.

Arrange a feast for learned Brahmins and before they leave, sufficient donations and gifts should be given to them.

HARI OM PURNAMIDAHPURNAMIDAM PURNAT PURNAMUDCHYATE|
PURNASY PURNAMADAY PURNMEVAY SHISHYATE||

And Giving alms to the poor people & helping them pleases Shani Deva he showers his blessing on the house.

APPENDIX
Since birth, food, clothing and shelter are the basic necessities of a human being. In remote past, humans started the journey of their life very much like wild animals. But with increasing understanding of the environment, humans continue to walk on the path of progress. With continuous efforts our learned sages revealed many secrets of nature. But the curiosity of man was never quenched. It is curiosity that led to so many fascinating discoveries and inventions. Necessity has of course, been a prime motivation behind man?s progress.
In the entire universe, only the solar system has significance for our existence. Life, as it is known to us is found only on the earth, the mother of all of us. Our earth goes round the Sun, sole source of energy for life on earth.
Great Indian sages conceptualized all the four Vedas and the role these could play in the well-being of human race. With time, Vedas came to become an integral part of our life style. Then our sages created VAASTU Shastra to make the immediate ambience of man favourably to him.
Literally, VAASTU means house or building. Our house should be such that we may pass our life in it with comfort and peace.
In this regard Atharvaveda says:
HAVIRDHAMAGNI SHALAMPATNINAM SADANAM SADAH | SADO DEVANAMASI DEVI SHALE ||
That is a house must be as pious as the place of Yagya. There should be a proper place in a house for the women folk, where their chastity could remain unspoiled. It should also have a proper place for the men folk where they could stay, meet and treat the guests. Similarly, there should be separate rooms for bath, dining, meditating etc. also.
Yajurved said: KIN VA VAPAN MAHAT Which place is bigger? Where should house be built?
This is answered in the next hymn:
BHUMIRAVAPANAMMAHAT
Land is the place to put solid, tangible things and it is also the large field to sow every kind of seeds and to construct every kind of building.
The basic principle of VAASTU is to adopt the macro and micro effects of nature and train them in favour of human being. Thus, every kind of construction must be done in such a way, as it may prove helpful in physical, mental and spiritual development of humans. A human body is a conglomerate of endless energies. VAASTU helps to channelise these energies.
A human body is also composed of five physical elements. A slight disturbance in the proportion of these elements may adversely affect the human being. VAASTU Shastra gives a detailed thought to this balance of five elements and suggests ways to carry out construction in such a way as not to disturb the proportion of these elements. Following table gives an account of these five elements and their effects

VAASTU AS A MEANS TO ACHIEVE SALVATION
Father of VAASTU Shastra, Vishwakarma says:
CHATURVAG PHAL PRAPTIH SALOKASHCH BHAVED DHRUVAM| SHILP SHASTRA PARIGYANA NYARTYEAPI SURTAM VRAJET||
From the complete knowledge of VAASTU (architecture), human being achieves Dharma, Arth, Kama, and Moksha. Their lives are a success on earth and after death they find a place amidst the deities and are worshipped by the people.
An architect, trained in western type of architecture, can guide you to build a house. But he can?t guarantee you for a peaceful stay in the house. But VAASTU Shastra does give such a guarantee. All around the world, house building is regarded as a mundane job. But in India, it is a religious activity; a means to achieve salvation. Unless and until we don?t understand the religious logic behind house building, we can?t understand the principles of VAASTU as well. A house minus VAASTU is no more than a heap of rubble. Let us now see how a good house helps us to achieve salvation.
DHARMA: Inhabitants of a house must get spiritual peace. It is even necessary to salve a man from the tortures of physical and spiritual pains. There should be no feeling of envy or dispute among the family members. In ancient times, even the most violent animals used to give up their nature in the ambience of hermitage. This is a dynamic example of VAASTU?s religious benefits.
ARTHA: Occupants of a house should be strong economically. A new house must bestow its occupants with wealth and not with a curse of penury. If such things happen i.e. a man loses his wealth in a new house, it should be inferred then, that VAASTU of the house is faulty. On the other hand, if a home proves fortunate for a man, it shows the success of VAASTU.
KAMA: Following the religious path and finding ways to earn money, a man can make efforts to fulfill his desires like marrying and having a happy family.
MOKSHA: This is the ultimate salvation that every one longs for. If the family is happy, children grow into successful citizens, duties of a man are said to be completed. Now he has no worry and no cause for tension at the time of his heavenly departure.
VAASTU is an indispensable means to achieve all of these four faculties.
MIRACLE CALLED FENG SUI
VAASTU Shastra is known in China, Hongkong and south-east Asia as Geng About 90 percent people there take the guidance of Feng Sui to build their hotels houses, shops, commercial complexes etc.
Five physical elements viz water, fire, earth, gold and wood, form the basis of Feng Sui. If the relative proportion these elements is correct the occupant of the house leads a happy life of he will have to suffer from scores of problems.
According to the beliefs of Feng, Sui, These five elements depend upon the time of ones birth. If, for example, a person is born at 3 p.m. in the afternoon, he or she will have water as the most favorably element for him or her. Such a person should begin the construct of his/her home from the west or south-west. The following table gives a brief profile of these elements.

That is, those who do not worship VAASTU because of the fears of over spending, infidelity or lethargy, lose their wealth and luxury, meet obstacle at every step and fall prey to untimely death. Such people have to bear the anger of VAASTU Purush and hence the unfortunate as a result of this anger. Hence, every prudent person should worship VAASTU Purush, without fail.
There are provisions of installing different kinds of VAASTU Peethas (platform) for worshipping VAASTU Purush.
Only the carpet are of the plot is considered to install the platform for VAASTU worship. Thus, VAASTU with one to one thousand steps is worshipped. For common households, worships of VAASTU with eighty-one steps are most prevalent. For the temples royal palaces, villages etc. VAASTU sixty-four steps is worshipped.

APPENDIX
Since the moment of birth, food, clothing and shelter are the basic necessities of a man. In remote past, humans started the journey of there live very much like wild animals. But with the increasing understanding of his environment, humans continue to walk on the path of progress. With continuous efforts our learned sages revealed many secrets if nature. But the curiosity of man was never quenched. It is curiosity that led to so many fascinating discoveries and inventions. Necessity has of course, been a prime motivation behind man?s progress.
In the entire universe, only the solar system has significance for our existence. Life, as it is known on the earth, the mother of all of us. Our earth goes round the sun, sole source of energy for life on earth.
Great Indian sages, conceptualize all the four Vedas and the role these could play in the well-being of human race. With time Vedas came to become an integral part of our life style. Then our sages created VAASTU Shastra to make the immediate ambience of man favourably to him.
Literally, VAASTU means house or building. Our house should be such that we may pass our life in it with comfort and peace.
In this regard Atharvveda says:
HAVIRDHAMAGNI SHALAMPATNINAM SADANAM SADAH | SADO DEVANAMASI DEVI SHALE ||
That is a house must be as pious as place of Yagya. There should be a proper place in a house for the women folk, where their chastity could remain unsoiled. It should also have a proper place for the men folk where they could stay and meet and treat the guests. Similarly, there should be separate rooms for bath, dining, meditating etc. also.
Yajurved said: KIN VA VAPAN MAHAT which place is bigger? Where should house be built?
This is answered in the next hymns:
BHUMIRAVAPANAMMAHAT
Land is the place to put solid, tangible things and it is also the large field to sow every kind of seeds and to build every kind of structure.
The basic principle of VAASTU is to adopt the macro and micro effects of nature train them in favour of human being. Thus, every kind of construction must be done in such a way, as it may prove helpful in physical, mental and spiritual development of humans. A human body is a conglomerate of endless powers. VAASTU helps to channelise these powers.
A human body is also composed of five physical elements. A slight disturbance in the proportion of these elements may adversely affect the human being. VAASTU Shastra gives a detailed thought to this gives a detailed thought to this balance of five elements and suggests ways to carry out construction in such a way as hot to disturb the proportion of these elements. Following table gives an account of these five elements and their effects

VAASTU AS A MEAN TO ACHIEVE SALVATION
Father of VAASTU Shastra, Vishvakarma says:
