Somvati Amavasya falls on 2 december 2013 starting from 8.55 am IST (indian standard time), Pujya Bapuji has advised that observing the following tips on this day would be very beneficial for sadhaks:

Requesting allofu take benefit of this holy & blessing golden opputurnity of getting prosperity

Dear Atman ifu dont have a tulsi plant , please get a little green tulsi soon as possible, try to get before 1st december & start worshipping the holy plant from 30th nov , water it daily & decorate it with flowers , do this worship on 30th nov, 1st dec & the 2nd december
& on 2nd december do pradakshina , circumambulation of tulsi plant 108 times.

a very auspicious holy day for chanting & worshipping Tulsi or holy basil plant

This is very impotant for jobless person to get good jobs or promotions in their present jobs & removing poverty from life

get a green Tulsi plant just a little one before 1st december 2013
from a nursery or a garden, get a green lovely tulsi plant &
worship the plant by lighting lamp on the day before somvati Amavasya

keep the tulsi plant in a small pot ur prayer or ur own room where u get some privacy

worship the plant by lighting lamp on the day before somvati Amavasya tat is 2 december morning & evening

& on 2nd dec   morning u worship this tulsi plant, & keep this plant in the middle of ur room ,so get some space

& do 108 parikrama circumambulations aound the Tulsi plant clockwise just go round slowly around the tulsi plant , atleast 108 times.

For Attaining Prosperity and/or Relief from Financial troubles

If a devotee performs 108 circumambulations (parikrama) of the holy Tulsi (basil) plant on Somvati Amavasya, he will be relieved from financial problems and will attain increased success and prosperity in his job/service/business, etc. Pujya Bapuji advised that this tip is especially important for people who are doing a job (service) and nurture fears of their boss, anxiety of being laid off, etc. People, who have failed in their business earlier or have taken loan and would like to repay it, should also take benefit from this divine technique om

tulsi plant 108 pradakshina somvati amavasya

108 parikrama of Tulsi for removing dridrata ( Poverty). GuruJi has also advised that doing japa and meditation (dhyan) on Somvati Amavasya is lakh times more beneficial as compared to doing the same on any other day. He further said that performing japa Chanting and meditation on Somvati Amavasya would afford the same high religious merits as doing them on the supremely holy nights of Diwali, Holi, Shivratri, Janmashtami or during an eclipse.

for reaping rich spiritual benefits, a sadhak should try & practice the following on Somvati Amavasya:
i. Observe Maun (silence) or speak as little as possible

ii. Devote maximum time to japa & meditation (dhyan)

iii. If possible, do upvaas (fast) and stay only on milk.

iv. Sleep on the ground on Somvati Amavasya and on the night before as well.(thatis simply not use the bed, may use blanket as bed and sleep on the floor)

v. On the night before Somvati Amavasya , the sadhak should make a firm resolve, “Tomorrow, I will observe maun (silence), study the holy scriptures & other Satsang books like Divya Prerna Prakash,Jeevan Vikas & Ishvar ki Or, and will engage myself constantly in japa and meditation.”

But all other sadhaks or devotees should definitely perform worship of the Lord and circumambulation of the Tulsi plant on Somvati Amavasya, setting aside all their other tasks. This will afford rich financial, intellectual and spiritual benefits to tthem whole life om om om…

Somvati Amavasi, or Somavati Amavasya, is no moon day that falls on a Monday (Somvar) in traditional Hindu calendar.

It is considered a highly auspicious day and millions of people take a holy dip in sacred Rivers like Ganga and Yamuna on the day. Married men and women also perform different pujas and rituals and also undertake Somavara Amavasya Vrat.
The Significance of Somvati Amavasya was narrated toYudhishtra by Bhisma in the Mahabharata. It is said that who ever takes a bath in the sacred rivers on the day would be prosperous, free of diseases and would be free from grief and sorrow. There is also a popular belief that the soul of ancestors will rest in peace if children and relatives take a holy dip in the sacred rivers.
Married women take the holy dip for a happy married life and for the long life of their husbands. They also worship the pipal tree on the day. Somavara Amavasya Vrata (fasting) is observed for a long and happy married life by couples. Many devout Hindus also fast on the day and some people only have a single meal.
On the day thousands of people take a dip in Ganga at Haridwar, Triveni and other places.

Pujya Bapuji adviced to perform 108 parikrama of Tulsi for removing dridrata ( Poverty). GuruJi has called on to all sadhaks to do jap and parikrama of Tulsiji.

Pujya Bapuji has also advised that doing japa of ur ishta mantra,mantra of fav deity and meditation (dhyan) on Somvati Amavasya is lakh times more beneficial as compared to doing the same on any other day. He further said that performing japa and meditation on Somvati Amavasya would afford the same high religious merits as doing them on the supremely holy nights of Diwali, Holi, Shivratri, Janmashtami or during an eclipse.

Somvati Amavasya  Pujya Bapuji has advised that observing the following tips on this day would be very beneficial for sadhaks:


इन तिथियों पर जप/ध्यान करने का वैसा ही हजारों गुना फल होता है जैसा की सूर्य/चन्द्र ग्रहण में जप/ध्यान करने से होता है:

१. सोमवती अमावस्या –
२. रविवार को सप्तमी हो जाए.)
३. मंगलवार की चतुर्थी हो जाए.
४. बुधवार की अष्टमी हो जाए.

इन तिथियों पर जप/ध्यान का फल ग्रहण के समय किये ही जप/ध्यान के सामान होता है. इसलिए हमें इन तिथियों पर जादा जप करना चाहिए, जिस से हमें थोडे में ही जादा लाभ मिले

Haribodhini or Dev Prabodhini Ekadashi or Dev Jagi Dev uthi ekadashi is observed on the eleventh day during the waxing phase of moon (Shukl Paksh) in the month of Kartik (October – November). On this day, Lord Vishnu wakes up from his Yoga Nidra (cosmic sleep) after the four holy months of the rainy season (Chaturmaas). This Ekadashi also marks the official end of Chaturmaas.

The greatness of observing a fast on Dev Prabodhini Ekadasi was narrated to Sage Narada by Lord Brahma and is found in the Skand Puraan.

Lord Brahma said to Narada Muni, “O best of the brahmanas, the merits acquired by bathing in the Ganges remain significant only as long as Haribodhini Ekadashi does not come. This sacred Ekadashi is more powerful in nullifying sin than one thousand Ashvamedha sacrifices and one hundred Rajasuya sacrifices.

The sins a person has accumulated over a thousand previous births are burned to ashes if he not only fasts but also remains awake throughout Ekadashi night, just as a mountain of cotton can be burned to ashes if one lights a small fire in it. Even if one does a small amount of pious activity on this day, following the rules and regulations, one will earn merit equal to Mount Sumeru in volume.

Anyone who observes Haribodhini Ekadasi is celebrated as highly qualified and makes his dynasty famous. As death is certain, so losing one’s wealth is also certain.Knowing this, O best of sages, one should observe a fast on this day so dear to Hari – Shri Haribodhini Ekadashi.

Haribodhini Ekadashi is the best Ekadashi. Nothing is unobtainable or rare in this world for one who fasts on this day, for it gives food grains, great wealth, and high merit, as well as eradication of all sin. Again I say to you, O Naradaji, whatever merit is earned by one who bathes in a place of pilgrimage, performs sacrifices, and studies the Vedas, is only one ten-millionth the merit earned by the person who fasts but once on Haribodhini Ekadashi.”

If a devotee does “aarti” of Lord Shri Hari on this holy day with camphor (capoor) or with karpooram on this holy day of Deva Jagi ekadashi specially at the evening time, then s/he is protected “life long” by the Lord from untimely death (akaal-mrityu) due to accidents, bomb blasts, etc. In these times of uncertainty, all readers are requested to kindly benefit from this precept of our scriptures by performing the Lord’s “aarti” with camphor on this day.

प्रबोधिनी एकादशी

भगवान श्रीकृष्ण ने कहा: हे अर्जुन ! मैं तुम्हें मुक्ति देनेवाली कार्तिक मास के शुक्लपक्ष
की ‘प्रबोधिनी एकादशी’ के सम्बन्ध में नारद और ब्रह्माजी के बीच हुए वार्तालाप को सुनाता हूँ । एक बार
नारादजी ने ब्रह्माजी से पूछा : ‘हे पिता !‘प्रबोधिनी एकादशी’ के व्रत का क्या फल होता है, आप कृपा करके
मुझे यह सब विस्तारपूर्वक बतायें ।’

ब्रह्माजी बोले : हे पुत्र ! जिस वस्तु का त्रिलोक में मिलना दुष्कर है, वह वस्तु भीकार्तिक मास के शुक्लपक्ष की
‘प्रबोधिनी एकादशी’ के व्रत से मिल जाती है । इस व्रत के प्रभाव से पूर्व जन्म के किये हुए अनेक बुरे
कर्म क्षणभर में नष्ट होजाते है । हे पुत्र ! जो मनुष्य श्रद्धापूर्वक इस दिन थोड़ा भी पुण्य करते हैं, उनका वह
पुण्य पर्वत के समान अटल हो जाता है । उनके पितृ विष्णुलोक में जाते हैं । ब्रह्महत्या आदि महान पाप भी
‘प्रबोधिनी एकादशी’ के दिन रात्रि को जागरण करनेसे नष्ट हो जाते हैं ।
हे नारद ! मनुष्य को भगवान की प्रसन्नता के लिए कार्तिक मास की इस एकादशी का व्रत अवश्य करना
चाहिए । जो मनुष्य इस एकादशी व्रत को करता है, वह धनवान, योगी, तपस्वी तथा इन्द्रियों को
जीतनेवाला होता है, क्योंकि एकादशीभगवान विष्णु को अत्यंत प्रिय है ।

इस एकादशी के दिन जो मनुष्य भगवान की प्राप्ति के लिए दान, तप, होम, यज्ञ (भगवान्नामजप भी परम
यज्ञ है। ‘यज्ञानां जपयज्ञोऽस्मि’ । यज्ञों में जपयज्ञ मेरा ही स्वरुप है।’ श्रीमद्भगवदगीता ) आदि करते हैं, उन्हें अक्षय पुण्य मिलताहै ।

इसलिए हे नारद ! तुमको भी विधिपूर्वक विष्णु भगवान की पूजा करनी चाहिए । इस एकादशी के दिन
मनुष्य को ब्रह्ममुहूर्त में उठकर व्रत का संकल्प लेना चाहिए और पूजा करनी चाहिए । रात्रि को भगवान
के समीप गीत, नृत्य, कथा-कीर्तनकरते हुए रात्रि व्यतीत करनी चाहिए ।

‘प्रबोधिनी एकादशी’ के दिन पुष्प, अगर, धूप आदि से भगवान की आराधना करनी चाहिए, भगवान को
अर्ध्य देना चाहिए । इसका फल तीर्थ और दान आदि से करोड़ गुना अधिक होता है ।

जो गुलाब के पुष्प से, बकुल और अशोक के फूलों से, सफेद और लाल कनेर के फूलों से, दूर्वादल से,
शमीपत्र से, चम्पकपुष्प से भगवान विष्णु की पूजा करते हैं, वे आवागमन के चक्र से छूट जाते हैं ।
इस प्रकार रात्रि में भगवान की पूजा करकेप्रात:काल स्नान के पश्चात् भगवान की प्रार्थना करते हुए गुरु
की पूजा करनी चाहिए और सदाचारी व पवित्र ब्राह्मणों को दक्षिणा देकर अपने व्रत को छोड़ना चाहिए ।

जो मनुष्य चातुर्मास्य व्रत में किसी वस्तु को त्याग देते हैं, उन्हें इस दिन से पुनः ग्रहण करनी चाहिए ।
जो मनुष्य ‘प्रबोधिनी एकादशी’ के दिन विधिपूर्वक व्रत करते हैं, उन्हें अनन्त सुख मिलता है और अंत
में स्वर्ग को जाते हैं

एकादशी माहात्मय
एकादशी की रात्रि में श्रीहरि के समीप जागरण का माहात्मय

सब धर्मों के ज्ञाता, वेद और शास्त्रों के अर्थज्ञान में पारंगत, सबके हृदय में रमण करनेवाले श्रीविष्णु के तत्त्व को जाननेवाले तथा भगवत्परायण प्रह्लादजी जब सुखपूर्वक बैठे हुए थे, उस समय उनके समीप स्वधर्म का पालन करनेवाले महर्षि कुछ पूछने के लिए आये ।

महर्षियों ने कहा : प्रह्रादजी ! आप कोई ऐसा साधन बताइये, जिससे ज्ञान, ध्यान और इन्द्रियनिग्रह के बिना ही अनायास भगवान विष्णु का परम पद प्राप्त हो जाता है ।

उनके ऐसा कहने पर संपूर्ण लोकों के हित के लिए उद्यत रहनेवाले विष्णुभक्त महाभाग प्रह्रादजी ने संक्षेप में इस प्रकार कहा : महर्षियों ! जो अठारह पुराणों का सार से भी सारतर तत्त्व है, जिसे कार्तिकेयजी के पूछने पर भगवान शंकर ने उन्हें बताया था, उसका वर्णन करता हूँ, सुनिये ।

महादेवजी कार्तिकेय से बोले : जो कलि में एकादशी की रात में जागरण करते समय वैष्णव शास्त्र का पाठ करता है, उसके कोटि जन्मों के किये हुए चार प्रकार के पाप नष्ट हो जाते हैं । जो एकादशी के दिन वैष्णव शास्त्र का उपदेश करता है, उसे मेरा भक्त जानना चाहिए ।

जिसे एकादशी के जागरण में निद्रा नहीं आती तथा जो उत्साहपूर्वक नाचता और गाता है, वह मेरा विशेष भक्त है । मैं उसे उत्तम ज्ञान देता हूँ और भगवान विष्णु मोक्ष प्रदान करते हैं । अत: मेरे भक्त को विशेष रुप से जागरण करना चाहिए । जो भगवान विष्णु से वैर करते हैं, उन्हें पाखण्डी जानना चाहिए । जो एकादशी को जागरण करते और गाते हैं, उन्हें आधे निमेष में अग्निष्टोम तथा अतिरात्र यज्ञ के समान फल प्राप्त होता है । जो रात्रि जागरण में बारंबार भगवान विष्णु के मुखारविंद का दर्शन करते हैं, उनको भी वही फल प्राप्त होता है । जो मानव द्वादशी तिथि को भगवान विष्णु के आगे जागरण करते हैं, वे यमराज के पाश से मुक्त हो जाते हैं ।

जो द्वादशी को जागरण करते समय गीता शास्त्र से मनोविनोद करते हैं, वे भी यमराज के बन्धन से मुक्त हो जाते हैं । जो प्राणत्याग हो जाने पर भी द्वादशी का जागरण नहीं छोड़ते, वे धन्य और पुण्यात्मा हैं । जिनके वंश के लोग एकादशी की रात में जागरण करते हैं, वे ही धन्य हैं । जिन्होंने एकादशी को जागरण किया हैं, उन्होंने यज्ञ, दान , गयाश्राद्ध और नित्य प्रयागस्नान कर लिया । उन्हें संन्यासियों का पुण्य भी मिल गया और उनके द्वारा इष्टापूर्त कर्मों का भी भलीभाँति पालन हो गया । षडानन ! भगवान विष्णु के भक्त जागरणसहित एकादशी व्रत करते हैं, इसलिए वे मुझे सदा ही विशेष प्रिय हैं । जिसने वर्द्धिनी एकादशी की रात में जागरण किया है, उसने पुन: प्राप्त होनेवाले शरीर को स्वयं ही भस्म कर दिया । जिसने त्रिस्पृशा एकादशी को रात में जागरण किया है, वह भगवान विष्णु के स्वरुप में लीन हो जाता है । जिसने हरिबोधिनी एकादशी की रात में जागरण किया है, उसके स्थूल सूक्ष्म सभी पाप नष्ट हो जाते हैं । जो द्वादशी की रात में जागरण तथा ताल स्वर के साथ संगीत का आयोजन करता है, उसे महान पुण्य की प्राप्ति होती है । जो एकादशी के दिन ॠषियों द्वारा बनाये हुए दिव्य स्तोत्रों से, ॠग्वेद , यजुर्वेद तथा सामवेद के वैष्णव मन्त्रों से, संस्कृत और प्राकृत के अन्य स्तोत्रों से व गीत वाद्य आदि के द्वारा भगवान विष्णु को सन्तुष्ट करता है उसे भगवान विष्णु भी परमानन्द प्रदान करते हैं ।

य: पुन: पठते रात्रौ गातां नामसहस्रकम् ।
द्वादश्यां पुरतो विष्णोर्वैष्णवानां समापत: ।
स गच्छेत्परम स्थान यत्र नारायण: त्वयम् ।

जो एकादशी की रात में भगवान विष्णु के आगे वैष्णव भक्तों के समीप गीता और विष्णुसहस्रनाम का पाठ करता है, वह उस परम धाम में जाता है, जहाँ साक्षात् भगवान नारायण विराजमान हैं ।

पुण्यमय भागवत तथा स्कन्दपुराण भगवान विष्णु को प्रिय हैं । मथुरा और व्रज में भगवान विष्णु के बालचरित्र का जो वर्णन किया गया है, उसे जो एकादशी की रात में भगवान केशव का पूजन करके पढ़ता है, उसका पुण्य कितना है, यह मैं भी नहीं जानता । कदाचित् भगवान विष्णु जानते हों । बेटा ! भगवान के समीप गीत, नृत्य तथा स्तोत्रपाठ आदि से जो फल होता है, वही कलि में श्रीहरि के समीप जागरण करते समय ‘विष्णुसहस्रनाम, गीता तथा श्रीमद्भागवत’ का पाठ करने से सहस्र गुना होकर मिलता है ।

जो श्रीहरि के समीप जागरण करते समय रात में दीपक जलाता है, उसका पुण्य सौ कल्पों में भी नष्ट नहीं होता । जो जागरणकाल में मंजरीसहित तुलसीदल से भक्तिपूर्वक श्रीहरि का पूजन करता है, उसका पुन: इस संसार में जन्म नहीं होता । स्नान, चन्दन , लेप, धूप, दीप, नैवेघ और ताम्बूल यह सब जागरणकाल में भगवान को समर्पित किया जाय तो उससे अक्षय पुण्य होता है । कार्तिकेय ! जो भक्त मेरा ध्यान करना चाहता है, वह एकादशी की रात्रि में श्रीहरि के समीप भक्तिपूर्वक जागरण करे । एकादशी के दिन जो लोग जागरण करते हैं उनके शरीर में इन्द्र आदि देवता आकर स्थित होते हैं । जो जागरणकाल में महाभारत का पाठ करते हैं, वे उस परम धाम में जाते हैं जहाँ संन्यासी महात्मा जाया करते हैं । जो उस समय श्रीरामचन्द्रजी का चरित्र, दशकण्ठ वध पढ़ते हैं वे योगवेत्ताओं की गति को प्राप्त होते हैं ।

जिन्होंने श्रीहरि के समीप जागरण किया है, उन्होंने चारों वेदों का स्वाध्याय, देवताओं का पूजन, यज्ञों का अनुष्ठान तथा सब तीर्थों में स्नान कर लिया । श्रीकृष्ण से बढ़कर कोई देवता नहीं है और एकादशी व्रत के समान दूसरा कोई व्रत नहीं है । जहाँ भागवत शास्त्र है, भगवान विष्णु के लिए जहाँ जागरण किया जाता है और जहाँ शालग्राम शिला स्थित होती है, वहाँ साक्षात् भगवान विष्णु उपस्थित होते हैं ।

एकादशी व्रत विधि

दशमी की रात्रि को पूर्ण ब्रह्मचर्य का पालन करें तथा भोग विलास से भी दूर रहें । प्रात: एकादशी को लकड़ी का दातुन तथा पेस्ट का उपयोग न करें; नींबू, जामुन या आम के पत्ते लेकर चबा लें और उँगली से कंठ शुद्ध कर लें । वृक्ष से पत्ता तोड़ना भी वर्जित है, अत: स्वयं गिरे हुए पत्ते का सेवन करे । यदि यह सम्भव न हो तो पानी से बारह कुल्ले कर लें । फिर स्नानादि कर मंदिर में जाकर गीता पाठ करें या पुरोहितादि से श्रवण करें । प्रभु के सामने इस प्रकार प्रण करना चाहिए कि: ‘आज मैं चोर, पाखण्डी और दुराचारी मनुष्य से बात नहीं करुँगा और न ही किसीका दिल दुखाऊँगा । गौ, ब्राह्मण आदि को फलाहार व अन्नादि देकर प्रसन्न करुँगा । रात्रि को जागरण कर कीर्तन करुँगा , ‘ॐ नमो भगवते वासुदेवाय’ इस द्वादश अक्षर मंत्र अथवा गुरुमंत्र का जाप करुँगा, राम, कृष्ण , नारायण इत्यादि विष्णुसहस्रनाम को कण्ठ का भूषण बनाऊँगा ।’ – ऐसी प्रतिज्ञा करके श्रीविष्णु भगवान का स्मरण कर प्रार्थना करें कि : ‘हे त्रिलोकपति ! मेरी लाज आपके हाथ है, अत: मुझे इस प्रण को पूरा करने की शक्ति प्रदान करें ।’ मौन, जप, शास्त्र पठन , कीर्तन, रात्रि जागरण एकादशी व्रत में विशेष लाभ पँहुचाते हैं।

एकादशी के दिन अशुद्ध द्रव्य से बने पेय न पीयें । कोल्ड ड्रिंक्स, एसिड आदि डाले हुए फलों के डिब्बाबंद रस को न पीयें । दो बार भोजन न करें । आइसक्रीम व तली हुई चीजें न खायें । फल अथवा घर में निकाला हुआ फल का रस अथवा थोड़े दूध या जल पर रहना विशेष लाभदायक है । व्रत के (दशमी, एकादशी और द्वादशी) -इन तीन दिनों में काँसे के बर्तन, मांस, प्याज, लहसुन, मसूर, उड़द, चने, कोदो (एक प्रकार का धान), शाक, शहद, तेल और अत्यम्बुपान (अधिक जल का सेवन) – इनका सेवन न करें । व्रत के पहले दिन (दशमी को) और दूसरे दिन (द्वादशी को) हविष्यान्न (जौ, गेहूँ, मूँग, सेंधा नमक, कालीमिर्च, शर्करा और गोघृत आदि) का एक बार भोजन करें।

फलाहारी को गोभी, गाजर, शलजम, पालक, कुलफा का साग इत्यादि सेवन नहीं करना चाहिए । आम, अंगूर, केला, बादाम, पिस्ता इत्यादि अमृत फलों का सेवन करना चाहिए ।

जुआ, निद्रा, पान, परायी निन्दा, चुगली, चोरी, हिंसा, मैथुन, क्रोध तथा झूठ, कपटादि अन्य कुकर्मों से नितान्त दूर रहना चाहिए । बैल की पीठ पर सवारी न करें ।

भूलवश किसी निन्दक से बात हो जाय तो इस दोष को दूर करने के लिए भगवान सूर्य के दर्शन तथा धूप दीप से श्रीहरि की पूजा कर क्षमा माँग लेनी चाहिए । एकादशी के दिन घर में झाडू नहीं लगायें, इससे चींटी आदि सूक्ष्म जीवों की मृत्यु का भय रहता है । इस दिन बाल नहीं कटायें । मधुर बोलें, अधिक न बोलें, अधिक बोलने से न बोलने योग्य वचन भी निकल जाते हैं । सत्य भाषण करना चाहिए । इस दिन यथाशक्ति अन्नदान करें किन्तु स्वयं किसीका दिया हुआ अन्न कदापि ग्रहण न करें । प्रत्येक वस्तु प्रभु को भोग लगाकर तथा तुलसीदल छोड़कर ग्रहण करनी चाहिए ।

एकादशी के दिन किसी सम्बन्धी की मृत्यु हो जाय तो उस दिन व्रत रखकर उसका फल संकल्प करके मृतक को देना चाहिए और श्रीगंगाजी में पुष्प (अस्थि) प्रवाहित करने पर भी एकादशी व्रत रखकर व्रत फल प्राणी के निमित्त दे देना चाहिए । प्राणिमात्र को अन्तर्यामी का अवतार समझकर किसीसे छल कपट नहीं करना चाहिए । अपना अपमान करने या कटु वचन बोलनेवाले पर भूलकर भी क्रोध नहीं करें । सन्तोष का फल सर्वदा मधुर होता है । मन में दया रखनी चाहिए । इस विधि से व्रत करनेवाला उत्तम फल को प्राप्त करता है । द्वादशी के दिन ब्राह्मणों को मिष्टान्न, दक्षिणादि से प्रसन्न कर उनकी परिक्रमा कर लेनी चाहिए ।

व्रत खोलने की विधि :

द्वादशी को सेवापूजा की जगह पर बैठकर भुने हुए सात चनों के चौदह टुकड़े करके अपने सिर के पीछे फेंकना चाहिए । ‘मेरे सात जन्मों के शारीरिक, वाचिक और मानसिक पाप नष्ट हुए’ – यह भावना करके सात अंजलि जल पीना और चने के सात दाने खाकर व्रत खोलना चाहिए ।

The Second Day is called Narak-Chaturdashi or more popularly as Chhoti Diwali which falls on the 14th day of the month of Kartik. This festival is observed to commemorate the victory of Lord Krishna over the demon king, Narkasur. This day is also celebrated as the birthday of Hanumanji or Hanuman jayanti. Also, on this day Hanumanji reached Ayodhya to deliver the long-awaited message of Lord Shree Sita Rama’s return. Just like diwali people light diyas on chhoti diwali to fill their homes with light, worship Goddess Laxmi and offer prayers to Her and they also burst firecrackers

Also referred to as Narak-Chaturdashi, Kali Chaudas is day to abolish laziness and evil which create hell in our life and shine light on life.

Narak Chaturdashi Snan is considered as the most auspicious ritual to perform on this day. It is believed that this festival marks the ending of darkness and beginning of brightness or happiness in the world.

The above mantra is chanted by mothers before giving bath to their children. Chanting this sloka mothers shower their babies

The Story of King Bali :
With his valour Bali conquered every bit of space, thus he became the most powerful king on earth. In his kingdom, justice was mere word, truth had no place and happiness was a dream. His form of charity was an occasion for pomp and show and those who went to seek Alms from the king Bali suffered the indignity of insults and humiliation. In fact, he felt that the vast wealth will remain and the pittance he handed out now and again could not affect even an iota of his asset. His false beliefs, arrogance and misrule ended when the Lord disguised as beggar and humble proved to Bali that his concepts were totally wrong and even his vast wealth could disappear in seconds. King Bali asked the dwarf beggar to ask for anything in his kingdom and with three steps even his crown vanished. With his first step Lord Vishnu covered the entire heaven and with the second step the earth and asked Bali where to keep his third step. Bali offered his head and became spiritually enlightened. Thus, this festival has a far deeper significance than a mere exhibition of gaiety and splendor. The Narak chaturdashi day therefore is dedicated to lights and prayers heralding a future full of joy and the elimination of greed.

Story of Narakchaturdashi from Srimad Bhagvad Maha Puraan

In Dwapar Yuga, Lord Krishna, the ascendant of Lord Vishnu, killed the notorious demon Narakasura on the same day as that of Diwali.

Narakasura was the son of Goddess Bhoomi. Despite of a great parentage, he possessed devilish tendencies.
Narakasura gota boon that he may be only killed by the hands of a women as he considered them to be weak he thought he would become immortal.
After getting this boon he started terrrifying all the three worlds.
He used to loot the people of three worlds and due to the supernatural powers he had nobody could stop him. Not only he plundered their valuable things, but abducted the womenfolk too. There was a terror of Narakasura everywhere.

Once Narakasura attacked the heavens to get hold of the army of elephants of Lord Indra. Indra being helpless before the demon, immediately to Lord Krishna to ask for help. Krishna at that time was spending a leisurely time with his wife Satyabhama. In order to fulfill both his duties as a friend and as a husband he took Satyabhama at the battlefield.

On his divine vehicle Garuda (a giant eagle), Lord Krishna set for the fort of Narakasura. His grand fort was guarded by a five headed demon Mura.

Lord shri Krishna destroyed all his forts and raksha kavachs along with the whole army of demons.


With his Sudarshana flying discus, Krishna beheaded Mura and then challenged Narakasura to come to fight on the battlefield.

It was an easy victory for great Shri Krishna. Narakasura was killed by Goddess Satyabhama inthe battle.The killing of Narakasura again takes us to the message that it is inevitable for virtue and truth to win over vice and evil.

Vijayadashami  is one of the most great & holiest Hindu festival celebrated on the tenth day of the Hindu autumn lunar month of Ashvin, or Ashwayuja which falls in September or October of the Western calendar, from the Shukla Paksha Pratipada, or the day after the new moon which falls in Bhadrapada, to the Dashami, or the tenth day of Ashvin. The first nine days are celebrated as Maha Navratri(Sanskrit: नवरात्रि, ‘nine nights’) or Sharada Navratri {the most important Navratri) and culminates on the tenth day as Vijaya dashami

Vijaya Dashmi is a divine festival.

All  the hindu festivals are important in their own way, but Vijaya Dashmi or Dussehra is unique in that it points towards the over all development in life. Though a series of festivals follows Dussehra, it is the festival of Dussehra that marks the beginning of a person’s all round development.

Dussehra or Vijayadashmi reminds us that one who indulges the ten senses in the objects of the world and seeks enjoyment therefrom loses the battle of life like Ravana.

The wise one, who restrains his ten senses and reposes in his True Self, and also leads others towards Self Bliss, emerges victorious like Lord Rama, and attains the Immortal state as well.

One who moves towards the Eternal, experiences inner peace, inner light and contentment like Lord Rama. But the one, who forgoes the eternal and seeks happiness from the impermanent, meets Ravana’s fate. To drive this principle home, and to rid us of the attraction towards the impermanent, is the objective of burning Ravana’s effigy on every Dussehra.

The body is transient, wealth is not eternal, and we are steadily heading towards death with each passing day. Our only duty is to garner the wealth of dharma; and for that purpose human birth alone is suitable.

Life is an art and one who doesn’t know the art of living fails to know the art of dying as well. He dies and is re-born again and again. One who knows the art of living, his life unites him with the Bestower of life, and death merges him with the deathless Lord. Life is a celebration, a song, and a melody. Live life in a way that would illuminate life, and die as would exude fragrance…it is for this very purpose that you have come to this world.

You have not come to rot in this world. You have not come to give birth to a few sons and daughters, become a mother-in-law, grandmother or grandfather, and then die in the end. You have come to experience, before death comes, your Eternal Self, Whom even death can’t touch; and Dussehra inspires you towards this goal.

The war between Ramji and Ravana is over, but the war between the Rama-attitude and Ravana-attitude within us continues. Lest the jiva is defeated in the war, Tulsidasji guides us, saying –

Pure discrimination does not arise without the compassionate Grace of God or the Sadguru.
Without the Grace of the Sadguru, without Satsang, one remains bereft of the insightful discrimination that provides answers to questions like, “Where lies real happiness? For what purpose have we been endowed with human life?”, etc. Without the Sadguru’s benign Grace, the jiva has been wandering in search of peace and bliss not for a couple of days or years or lives, but for ages together, with no idea about the right source of true peace and bliss. It therefore needs to avail itself of the Sadguru’s company and Satsang.
The company of saints equips one with the insight as to what should be done, and what should not be done, what brings excellence to life and what needs to be done before death strikes. Once you have known all this, you have truly benefited from the holy company of saints and accomplished the very goal of human life.

The craving for sense enjoyments takes one on the path of Ravana, while the techniques imparted by the Saints fill one’s life with inner bliss. And sooner or later, the jiva realizes its True Self, which is the true goal of human life.

Dasha-Hara is the festival of Victory of Good over Evil.

Victory of Durga Mata over Mahishasura
Some of the demons, or Asuras, were very powerful and ambitious and continually tried to defeat the Devas, or Gods , and capture Heaven. One Asura, Mahishasura, in the form of a buffalo, grew very powerful and created havoc on the earth. Under his leadership, the Asuras defeated the Devas. The world was crushed under Mahishasura’s tyranny, the Devas joined their energies into Shakti, a single mass of incandescent energy, to kill Mahishasura.
A very powerful band of lightning emerged from the mouths of Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva and a young, beautiful female virgin with ten hands appeared. All the Gods gave their special weapons to her. This Shakti coalesced to form the goddess Durga. Riding on a lion, who assisted her, Durga fought Mahishasura. The battle raged for nine days and nights. Finally on the tenth day of Ashvin shukla paksha, Mahishasura was defeated and killed by MaaDurga.
Hence Dasha-Hara is also known as Navratri or Durgotsav and is a celebration of MaaDurga’s victory. Devi Durga, as Consort of Lord Shiva, represents two forms of female energy – one mild and protective and the other fierce and destructive.

Daksha, the Lord of the Earth, and his wife Menaka, had a daughter called Sati. As a child, Sati started worshipping Lord Shiva as her would-be-husband. Lord Shiva was pleased with the Sati’s worship of him and married her. Daksha was against their marriage but could not prevent it. Daksha arranged a yagna to which everyone except Lord Shiva was invited. Sati, feeling ashamed of her father’s behaviour and shocked by the attitude meted towards her husband, sacrified herself in the holy fire. Lord Shiva was anguished when he discovered this. He lifted Sati’s body on his shoulders and started dancing madly. As the supreme power was dancing with wrath, the world was on the verge of destruction.
Then Lord Narayana came forward as a saviour and used his Chakra to cut Sati’s body into pieces. Those pieces fell from the shoulders of the dancing Shiva and scattered throughout the world. Shiva was pacified when the last piece fell from his shoulder. Lord Narayana revived Sati. The places where the pieces of Sati fell are known as the “Shakti Piths” or energy pits. Kalighat in Kolkata, Kamakshya near Guwahati and Vaishnav Devi in Jammu are three of these places.
In her next birth, Sati was born as Parvati or Shaila-Putri (First form of Durga), the daughter of Himalaya. Lord Narayana asked Shiva to forgive Daksha. Ever since, peace was restored and Durga Adi Shakti with her children Saraswati, Lakshmi, Kartikeya, Ganesh and her two sakhis – Jaya and Vijaya visit her parents each year during the season of Sharatkal or autumn, when Durga-Puja is celebrated.

End of Agnyatawas of Pandavas
In the age of Dvapara Yuga, Pandavas – the five acknowledged sons of Pandu (Sanskrit: पांडु), by his two wives Kunti and Madri – lost to Kauravas in a game of dice, and both spent twelve years of Vanawas, or exile to the forest, followed by one year of Agnyatawas. The brothers hid their weapons in a hole in a Shami tree before entering the Kingdom of Virat to complete the final year of Agnyatawas. After that year, on Vijayadashmi, they recovered the weapons, declared their true identities and defeated Kauravas, who had attacked King Virat to steal his cattle. Since that day, Shami trees and weapons have been worshipped and the exchange of Shami leaves on Vijayadashmi has been a symbol of good will and victory. This is also called Shami/Jammi Puja.

Devotees perform “Aditya Homa” as a “Shanti Yagna” and recite Sundara Kanda of Srimad Ramayana for nine days. These Yagna performances are thought to create powerful agents in the atmosphere surrounding the house that will keep the household environment clean and healthy. These rituals are intended to rid the household of the ten bad qualities, which are represented by ten heads of Ravana as follows:

Kama (Lust)
Krodha (Anger)
Moha (delusion)
Lobha (Greed)
Mada (Over Pride)
Matsara (Jealousy)
Manas (Mind)
Buddhi (Intellect)
Chitta (will)
Ahankara (Ego).

Some householders perform Yagnas thrice daily along with Sandhya Vandana, which is also called Aahavaneeya Agni, Grahapatya Agni or Dakshina Agni. In addition, the Aditya Homa is performed with the Maha Surya Mantras and the Aruna Prapathaka of the Yajurveda. These mantras are believed to keep the heart, brain and digestive functions in balance in the absence of adequate sunlight in the winter months.

The ceremony of Vidyarambham (Vidya means “knowledge” , arambham means “beginning’), a Hindu tradition where children between two and three years old are formally initiated, is held on Vijayadashami.
The last three days of the Navaratri festival, i.e. Ashtami, Navami, and Dashami are celebrated as Sarasvati Puja. The celebrations start with the Puja Veypu (Placing for Worship). It consists of placing the books for Pooja on the Ashtami day. It may be in one’s own house, in the local Nursery School run by traditional teachers, or in the local temple. The books will be taken out for reading, after worship, only on the morning of the third day (Vijaya Dashami). It is called Puja Eduppu (Taking from Puja). Children are happy since they are not expected to study on these days. On the Vijaya Dashami day, Kerala celebrates the Ezhuthiniruthu or Initiation of Writing for the little children before they are admitted to nursery schools. This is also called Vidyarambham. The child is made to write for the first time on the rice spread in a plate with the index finger, guided by an elder of the family or by a reputed teacher. The little ones will have to write “Hari Shri Ganapataye Namah” and recite the same to mark the auspicious entry in to the world of education. This is considered a memorable event in the life of a person. Ayudha Puja is also conducted during this period.

तो इस दिन व्यासजी की स्मृति में ‘अपने-अपने गुरु में सत्-चित्-आनंदस्वरूप ब्रह्म-परमात्मा का वास है’, ऐसा सच्चा ज्ञान याद करके उनका पूजन करते हैं ।

The full moon day in the Hindu month of Ashad (July-August) is observed as the auspicious day of Guru Purnima, a day sacred to the memory of the great sage Vyasa. Bhagvan Sri veda vyasa

All Hindus are indebted to this ancient saint who edited the four Vedas, wrote the 18 Puranas, the Mahabharata and the Srimad Bhagavata.

Guru Purnima is traditionally held to be Bhagawan Vyasa’s birthday. According to the Indian calendar IT falls on the 15th of the month of Ashada. Bhagawan Vyasa is called Veda Vyasa – or the Compiler of the Vedas. Bhagawan Vyasa saw that, in the coming yugas, men would be of grosser mind and would lack the ability to learn and retain all of the Vedas. So he compiled the Vedas into four parts – the Rig, Yajur, Sama and Atharva Veda.

Vyasa even taught Dattatreya,  is regarded as the Guru of Gurus.

Furthermore he wrote the Puranas so that the common people could also benefit from the knowledge of the Vedas – he conveyed the same spiritual principles through the medium of stories and parables. He is also the author of the Brahma Sutras – the quintessence of Vedanta.  so bhagvan holy birthday is celebrated as Guru Purnima.

The Gurupurnima Story

Gurupurnima is an ancient Indian celebration & the most holiest festival celebrated  . It goes back to the time when the four Vedas were established as the foundation of the holy Indian tradition Bhartiya Sanskruti. The great sage Veda Vyasa, who compiled the Vedas, was also the one whose inspiration gave rise to this celebration of Gurupurnima—a celebration in honor of the Guru.

The disciples of Veda Vyasa were pondering the immense nature of the gifts that he had bestowed on the world. Not only had he compiled the four Vedas, but he had recorded the Mahabharata and the thirty-six Puranas—masterpieces of the Indian spiritual tradition. In addition to these great bequests to mankind, he was their teacher and had bestowed his grace and his spiritual knowledge upon each one of them.

By following his guidance, the disciples of Veda Vyasa grew to spiritual maturity and felt rich in gratitude to their teacher. Uncertain what form of thanks could possibly be adequate to express their gratitude, they asked Veda Vyasa himself, “How can we repay you for the divine wisdom you have imparted to us?”

With great compassion, Veda Vyasa told his disciples that they could choose one day of the year to be especially dedicated to honoring Shri Guru as a way to express this profound gratitude. On this chosen day, the Guru would be honored with offerings and gifts. Disciples, for all time, would know that their offerings would always, on this day, reach their Guru.

The disciples of Veda Vyasa followed his guidance. They chose the full-moon day (purnima) of the month of Ashadha as it was the fullest and brightest of all the year’s purnimas. This day became known as “Gurupurnima”—the full moon of the Guru.

This tradition of Gurupurnima has continued throughout the ages, and Siddha Yogis celebrate the full moon of July with the Siddha Yoga practices, with our offerings, and with our love—all in gratitude for the Guru’s gift of life and knowledge. Siddha Yogis bow to Shri Guru’s grace with reverence and love.

Significance of Guru Purnima
On this day, all spiritual aspirants and devotees worship Vyasa in honor of his divine personage and all disciples perform a ‘puja’ of their respective spiritual preceptor or ‘Gurudevs’.

This day is of deep significance to the farmers, for it heralds the setting in of the much-needed rains, as the advent of cool showers usher in fresh life in the fields. It is a good time to begin your spiritual lessons. Traditionally, spiritual seekers commence to intensify their spiritual ‘sadhana’ from this day.

The period ‘Chaturmas’ (“four months”) begins from this day. In the past, wandering spiritual masters and their disciples used to settle down at a place to study and discourse on the Brahma Sutras composed by Vyasa, and engage themselves in Vedantic discussions.

Bhagwan Sree Veda Vyas Ji is the Vishwa Guru of Dwaapar Yuga an empowered soul who revealed the this world Vedic knowledge, wisdom and history in a written form.

Krishna -Dvaipayana Vyasa Deva has revealed a great number of Vedic literature. First he divided the One Veda into four, then he explained them in the Puranas, he spoke the Mahabharata to Ganesa who wrote it down for the first time. In the Mahabharata the Bhagavad-gita is revealed. Then all Vedic literature is summarized in the Vedanta sutra, and for future guidance he gave a natural commentary on the Vedanta sutra, called Shrimad Bhagwatam. This was after expressing a desire to reveal in a more direct way the pastimes of the supreme lord and his devotees. Shukadeva Goswami the son of Vyasa deva, in his turn delivered the Bhagavatam to the great Emperor Pariksit, who was surrounded by sages on the bank of the Ganges, awaiting death without taking food or drink for seven days. Shukadeva Said; This Bhagavata Purana is as brilliant as the sun, and it has arisen just after the departure of Lord Krishna to His own abode, accompanied by religion, knowledge, etc. Sincere persons who have lost their vision due to the dense darkness of ignorance in the age of Kali shall get light from this Purana. This discourse took place 25-36 years after the Mahabharat war.

The Purnima (Full Moon) Day in the month of Ashadha (July-August) is known as “Guru Purnima”. This is a very sacred day on which special worship is performed to the Acharyas, who, through their Infinite Compassion and Supreme Grace, have imparted Knowledge of the Absolute (Brahma Vidya). Through a long and continuous line of Acharyas (Guru Parampara) to all sincere seekers . An Acharya is a person who lives and teaches by his own example.

Among the Acharyas, Shri Veda Vyasa stands as foremost and on His appearance day he is honored by all followers of the Vedic tradition.

He codified the Veda into four divisions ( 1131 Sakhas or Recensions divided into Rig (21 sakhas), Yajur(101 sakhas), Sama (1000 sakhas) and Atharva Veda (9 sakhas);

He wrote the Brahma Sutras (555 Sutras or Aphorisms integrating the messages of the Upanishads relating to Jiva, the Universe and Brahman); He wrote 18 Maha Puranas(Brahma Purana, Padma Purana, Bhagavata Purana, Siva Purana, Skanda Purana, Garuda Purana, Brahmanda Purana etc. Of these 18, Vishnu Purana compiled by Vysacharya’s father, Parasaracharya, but was edited and presented by Vyasa).

He witnessed and narrated the various incidents of the Mahabharata (with Maha Ganapati as the writer) which contains the crown jewel of Dharma, the Bhagavad Gita. Shri Vyasa is also a Chirajeevin (Deathless). He is very rightly called (one of vast intellect) and an eternal sage.

Badarajana (Vyasadeva): is known as Krishna, Krishna-dvaipayana, Dvaipayana, Satyavati-suta, Parasarya, Parasaratmaja, Badarayana, Vedavyasa, etc. He was the son of Mahamuni Parasara in the womb of Satyavati prior to her betrothal with Maharaja Santanu, the father of the great general Grandfather Bhismadeva. He is a powerful incarnation of Narayana, and he broadcasts the Vedic wisdom to the world.

Vyasadeva should be offered respects before one chants the Vedic literature, especially the Puranas. Shukadeva Gosvami his son, and Rishis like Vaisampayana were his disciples for different branches of the Vedas. The Brahma-sutras—the Vedanta-sutras, or Badarayana-sutras—were compiled by him.

Amongst sages he is the most respected author by dint of severe penances. When he wanted to record the great epic Mahabharata for the welfare of all people in the age of Kali, he was feeling the necessity of finding a powerful writer who could take his dictation. By the order of Brahmaji, Shri Ganeshji took charge of the writing. On the condition that Vyasadeva would not stop dictation for a moment. The Mahabharata was thus compiled by the joint endeavor of Vyasa and Ganesha, in Vyasa’s cave dwelling .

Just as the Moon shines by reflecting the light of the Sun, the disciples gain from their Gurus. Guru is the only assurance for the individual to transcend the bondage of sorrow and experience the consciousness of the Reality. The Guru is considered as an embodiment of the archetypes of Lord Brahma, Lord Vishnu and Lord Shiva, and through His grace one reaches the highest state of wisdom and bliss. Hence, the Guru’s guidance helps in managing worldly affairs with ease.

Further, according to the Rishis of yore, cosmic energy flows through the human body: it enters through the crown chakra and leaves through the feet. It is believed that the cosmic energy flows from the Guru’s feet in abundance.

The Saptarishis, who are the venerated masters who completely dedicated themselves to the pursuit of divine light, are Atri, Bhrigu, Pulastya, Vasishtha, Gautama, Angirasa and Marichi. They are ’seers’ who possess knowledge about the past, present and future of humanity.

Jupiter represents Guru, that is the only planet that has the potency to nullify any affliction caused by the other planets. Hence, Jupiter represents the higher mind and goes quiet for transmitting knowledge.

The relationship between the Guru and the Disciple is a sacred one. It is purely spiritual in nature and based on the maturity of Gyan (spiritual knowledge) and Sadhana (spiritual practice). It is the Guru who dispels the darkness of ignorance, arising out of bodily attachment.

What is it that you are supposed to know on this day of Guru Purnima?
You must understand that God is in you, with you, around you, above you, below you. In fact, you are God. Recognise this truth in the first instance. Do not entertain excessive desires and become beggars. Do your duty sincerely. That is the true Sadhana. When you are in office, do office work only; do not think of your family matters. Likewise, when you are at home, take care of the needs of your wife and children. Do not make your home an office. But today because of too much work in office, people take office-papers to their homes to complete their work. They are thus facing difficulties because they mix up their office work, household work, business and spiritual matters.

Right from this day, try to reduce your attachment to the world to the extent possible. Be happy and make others happy. Do not hurt anybody. Consider difficulties as passing clouds. You have developed family relationships and there are bound to be some worries. But do not be perturbed by them. When you look at the vast sky, you find many clouds. Likewise, in the sky of your heart there are clouds of attachment. They just come and go. Do not worry about them. What is the shape of worry? It is a mentally created fear. It is the result of your imagination. Every man is bound to encounter difficulties and losses. We should face them with courage.

From this day of Guru Purnima, make your hearts sacred. Just as you wave away the mosquitoes that bite you, brush aside any difficulties that assail you. Do not be depressed by sorrow nor be elated by happiness. Develop equanimity and strive to attain Divinity.

The Role of the Guru
Swami Sivananda asks: “Do you realize now the sacred significance and the supreme importance of the Guru’s role in the evolution of man? It was not without reason that the India of the past carefully tended and kept alive the lamp of Guru-Tattva. It is therefore not without reason that India, year after year, age after age, commemorates anew this ancient concept of the Guru, adores it and pays homage to it again and again, and thereby re-affirms its belief and allegiance to it. For, the true Indian knows that the Guru is the only guarantee for the individual to transcend the bondage of sorrow and death, and experience the Consciousness of the Reality

The Guru’s Advice
Swami Sivananda recommends: “Wake up at Brahmamuhurta (at 4 a.m.) on this most holy day. Meditate on the lotus feet of your Guru. Mentally pray to him for his Grace, through which alone you can attain Self-realisation. Do vigorous Japa and meditate in the early morning hours.

“After bath, worship the lotus feet of your Guru, or his image or picture with flowers, fruits, incense and camphor. Fast or take only milk and fruits the whole day.
In the afternoon, sit with other devotees of your Guru and discuss with them the glories and teachings of your Guru.

“Alternatively, you may observe the vow of silence and study the books or writings of your Guru, or mentally reflect upon his teachings. Take fresh resolves on this holy day, to tread the spiritual path in accordance with the precepts of your Guru.

“At night, assemble again with other devotees, and sing the Names of the Lord and the glories of your Guru. The best form of worship of the Guru is to follow his teachings, to shine as the very embodiment of his teachings, and to propagate his glory and his message.”

If a devotee performs 108 circumambulations (parikrama) of the holy Tulsi (basil) plant on Somvati Amavasya, he will be relieved from financial problems and will attain increased success and prosperity in his job/service/business, etc. Pujya Bapuji advised that this tip is especially important for people who are doing a job (service) and nurture fears of their boss, anxiety of being laid off, etc. People, who have failed in their business earlier or have taken loan and would like to repay it, should also take benefit from this divine technique om

He further said that performing japa Chanting and meditation on Somvati Amavasya would afford the same high religious merits as doing them on the supremely holy nights of Diwali, Holi, Shivratri, Janmashtami or during an eclipse.

for reaping rich spiritual benefits, a sadhak should try & practice the following on Somvati Amavasya:
i. Observe Maun (silence) or speak as little as possible
ii. Devote maximum time to japa & meditation (dhyan)
iii. If possible, do upvaas (fast) and stay only on milk.
iv. Sleep on the ground on Somvati Amavasya and on the night before as well.
v. On the night before Somvati Amavasya , the sadhak should make a firm resolve, “Tomorrow, I will observe maun (silence), study the holy scriptures & other Satsang books like Divya Prerna Prakash,Jeevan Vikas & Ishvar ki Or, and will engage myself constantly in japa and meditation.”

But all other sadhaks or devotees should definitely perform worship of the Lord and circumambulation of the Tulsi plant on Somvati Amavasya, setting aside all their other tasks. This will afford rich financial, intellectual and spiritual benefits to tthem whole life om om om…

Somvati Amavasi, or Somavati Amavasya, is no moon day that falls on a Monday (Somvar) in traditional Hindu calendar.

It is considered a highly auspicious day and millions of people take a holy dip in sacred Rivers like Ganga and Yamuna on the day. Married men and women also perform different pujas and rituals and also undertake Somavara Amavasya Vrat.
The Significance of Somvati Amavasya was narrated toYudhishtra by Bhisma in the Mahabharata. It is said that who ever takes a bath in the sacred rivers on the day would be prosperous, free of diseases and would be free from grief and sorrow. There is also a popular belief that the soul of ancestors will rest in peace if children and relatives take a holy dip in the sacred rivers.
Married women take the holy dip for a happy married life and for the long life of their husbands. They also worship the pipal tree on the day. Somavara Amavasya Vrata (fasting) is observed for a long and happy married life by couples. Many devout Hindus also fast on the day and some people only have a single meal.
On the day thousands of people take a dip in Ganga at Haridwar, Triveni and other places.

Pujya Bapuji adviced to perform 108 parikrama of Tulsi for removing dridrata ( Poverty). GuruJi has called on to all sadhaks to do jap and parikrama of Tulsiji.

इन तिथियों पर जप/ध्यान करने का वैसा ही हजारों गुना फल होता है जैसा की सूर्य/चन्द्र ग्रहण में जप/ध्यान करने से होता है:

१. सोमवती अमावस्या –
२. रविवार को सप्तमी हो जाए.)
३. मंगलवार की चतुर्थी हो जाए.
४. बुधवार की अष्टमी हो जाए.

इन तिथियों पर जप/ध्यान का फल ग्रहण के समय किये ही जप/ध्यान के सामान होता है. इसलिए हमें इन तिथियों पर जादा जप करना चाहिए, जिस से हमें थोडे में ही जादा लाभ मिले
सोमवती अमावस्या के दिन 108 बार अगर तुलसी की परिक्रमा करते हो, ओंकार का थोड़ा जप करते हो, सूर्य नारायण को अर्घ्य देते हो; यह सब साथ में करो तो अच्छा है, नहीं तो खाली तुलसी को 108 बार प्रदक्षिणा करने से तुम्हारे घर से दरिद्रता भाग जाएगी l

Dakshinayanam :- The Night of Gods

The smallest Unit of time is 11 nimesha. Fifteen nimeshas make one kashtha. thirty kashthas are one kala and thirty kalas constitute one muhurta. There are thirty muhurtas in a span of day and night (ahoratra). Thirty such ahoratras make up a month. There are two pakshas (fornight) in every month. Six months constitute an ayana and two ayanas a year. There are thus twelve months in every year. The names of the two ayanas are Uttarayana and Dakshinayana.
While humans pass through uttarayana, the gods pass through only one day. Similarly. when humans pass through dakshinayana, the gods pass through merely one night. One year for humans is equivalent to a time span of one day and one night for the gods.
Twelve thousand years of the gods make up one mahayuga. This is subdivided into four yugas (eras). The names of these eras are Satya yuga or Krita yuga, Treta yuga, Dvapara yuga and Kali yuga. Satya yuga has four thousand years, treta yuga three thousand, dvapara yuga two thousand and kait yuga one thousand. This adds up to ten thousand years. But there are also periods that join two yugas: (sandhyamsha).

Satya yuga has a sandhyamsha of four hundred years, treta yuga of three hundred, dvapara yuga of two hundred and kali yuga of one hundred. There will therefore be seven hundred additional years between satya yuga and treta yuga, five hundred between treta yuga and dvapara yuga, three hundred between dvapara yuga and kali yuga and five hundred between kali yuga and the next satya yuga. These are two thousand additional years, and when added up to the earlier figure of ten thousand, make up twelve thousand years.
There are a little over seventy-one manvantaras (eras) in each mahayuga. Each manvantara is a time period that is ruled over by a Manu. The first Manu in the present kalpa (cycle) was Svayambhuva Manu and there were several other Manus after him. Each kalpa in fact passes during one of Brahma’s days and there are fourteen manvantaras in a kalpa. Stated differently, there are one thousand mahayugas in every kalpa.
Three hundred and sixty kalpas constitute one of Brahma’s years. One hundred times this time period is known as a parardha. At the end of this period. the whole universe is destroyed and Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva are also destroyed. At the end of the destruction, creation starts afresh and this creation is known as sarga.
There is a smaller process of destruction that takes place at the end of every kalpa. Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva are not destroyed, but everything else is. The creation that comes at the end of this minor destruction is known as pratisarga.
The present kalpa is known as varaha kalpa. The one that preceded it was known as padma kalpa.

The angular distance of a heavenly body from the celestial equator will be either negative if the planet is above the northern hemisphere, or positive, in case the planet is above the southern hemisphere. This is also commonly known as a declination or Ayana. Thus the Sun’s yearly movement is divided into two parts, called Uttarayana and Dakshinayana. The earth’s equator is tilted 23.45 degrees with respect to the plane of the earth’s orbit around the sun, so at various times during the year, as the earth orbits the sun, declination varies from 23.45 degrees north to 23.45 degrees south. This gives rise to the seasons. Around December 21, the northern hemisphere of the earth is tilted 23.45 degrees away from the sun, which is the winter solstice for the northern hemisphere and the summer solstice for the southern hemisphere. Around June 21, the southern hemisphere is tilted 23.45 degrees away from the sun, which is the summer solstice for the northern hemisphere and winter solstice for the southern hemisphere. On March 21 and September 21 are the fall and spring equinoxes when the sun is passing directly over the equator. Note that the tropics of cancer and capricorn mark the maximum declination of the sun in each hemisphere. Each Ayana has three seasons.

The accurate method of knowing when uttarayana or dakshinayana starts is to calculate highest northan and southern declination of the sun. The dates mentioned below in 1 are based on this method. The other method of knowing dakshinaayana is when nirayana surya enters cancers, and uttaraayana starts when nirayana surya enters Capricorn. Actual Ayanagati may not be observed exactly using this method. Most drika panchanga makers donot follow this method. Please remember right now ayanamsha is increasing every year by 50 seconds. Due to this our ritus should shift. But they are not shifting. If we follow nirayana method after some years you’ll wrongly mention winter ritu in summer and summer ritu in winter. That is very much inaccurate. The ritu follow declination not nirayana surya.

1. Drika Siddhanta:
Dakshinayana starts when sayana sun enters cancers, and uttaraayana starts when sayana surya enters Capricorn. We need to use sayana surya in order to observe surya’s ayana gati.

2. Drika Siddhanta and Nirayana System
Dakshinaaya starts when nirayana surya enters cancers, and uttaraayana starts when nirayana surya enters Capricorn. Actual Ayanagati may not be observed exactly using this method.

Among these two system ,Which one to use is the personal choice. Some people follow 1 and some follow 2. However sankranti decision is always done using 2 method. It’s just Ayana gati and Ritu they donot follow ayanamsha. Sun’s Ayana gati is always tropical. Ritus always follow tropical sun, not nirayana sun. However, some people will always make their panchangam using 2 for Dakshinaayana, Uttarayana and Ritu. Most modern panchangam will follow method 1.

Dakshinayana or Pitrayana is the nighttime of gods in Hinduism and it lasts for six months or till Makar Sankranti. Uttarayana period starts with Makar Sankranti and it is the daytime of Devas. A human year is equal to one day of gods in Hindu religion.
