The institution's main objective is to promote and spread the principles of Sanatana Dharma, the Hindu religion among the general public by publishing Gita, Ramayana, Upanishads, Puranas, Discourses of eminent Saints and other character-building books & magazines and marketing them at highly subsidised prices. The institution strives for the betterment of life and the well-being of all. It aims to promote the art of living as propounded in the Gita for peace & happiness and the ultimate upliftment of mankind. The founder, Brahmalina Shri Jayadayalji Goyandka, was a staunch devotee and an exalted soul. He was much given to the Gita as the panacea for mankind's plight and began publishing it and other Hindu scriptures to spread good intent and good thought amongst all.

This Blog is an Humble attempt to spread the Divine Message of Pujjya BapuJi & Dedicated at the Lotus feets SHRI CHARANKAMAL Of PARAM PUJYA GURUJI SANT SHRI ASARAM JI BAPU VishwaGuru Of the Age.

The essence of Bharata lies in Her culture of Self-realization. ParamAtman is not seen as something apart, but as our very essence, the one True Self that resides in the heart of us all. Raising ourselves from ordinary individuals to the heights of Supreme Consciousness is only possible with the guidance of one who is already in that transcendent state. Such a one is called a Satguru, a True Yogi, as in one who has gained mastery over the mind, one who is beyond the mind.

From ancient times up to the present day, an unbroken succession of Self-realized Saints have incarnated in the Land of Yogis & Saints Bharata to lead seekers of Truth to the ultimate reality.

Shani Dev & Shanaischara Ashtakam

Sanaischarashtakam By King Dasaratha

Sani(slow one) aka Sanaischara(one who moves slowly) aka Saneeswara (The god who is slow) is the planet Saturn among the nine planets. He is the son of Surya and Chaya and is the only planet with the epithet Iswara(god). He takes 30 years to make a full round of the Sun and so he becomes the slowest among the planets. He was made lame by his half brother Yama(God of death). He is the indicator of longevity, diseases, death, base actions, reason for death, danger, slave hood and cattle wealth in a person’s horoscope.
He is described as one with very hard hair, of black colour, phlegmatic, one with thick teeth, one having red eyes, one with base character, slow witted, lazy and well proportioned. He is the owner of Makara and Kumbha rasi of the horoscope, powerless in mesha rasi and extremely powerful in Thula rasi. Shukra(Venus) and Budha(mercury) are his friends, Jupiter equal, sun, moon, and Kuja(Mars) are his enemies.
He is also referred as Manda, Kona, Bhaskari, Arki and Suryputhra in astrological literature. He takes 30 months for moving from one rasi to another. He gives rise to bad effects when he is standing in the Chandra rasi, rasi before it and rasi after it. This period is called Sade Sathi in Hindi and Ezharai nattu sani in Tamil. Even in this seven and half year period, the period when it is with Chandra is the worst one. In a person’s life, there is a possibility of this seven and half period coming thrice, the first called mangu sani, the second called pongu sani and the third called marano (pokku) sani. Another very bad period is when Sani lives in the 8th house from moon. The mental confusion it causes may even make one mad. Other Rasis where is bad are 4th ., 5th., 7th., 9th and 10th rasi from the moon. This would mean that he does good only for 5 years during his one full round of 30 years. To please sani it is necessary either to pray him, or his friend Hanuman or Lord Iyappa of Sabari malai or to light gingelly lamps in front of him on Saturdays or to give a copper pot full of gingelly oil as dhana to a Brahmin after seeing once own image in that oil.
This prayer helps people suffering from trouble caused by Sani if they sing it regularly on Saturdays.

Kono anthako roudhra yamo adha babru,
Krishna sani pingala manda souri,
Nithyam smrutho yo harathe cha peedaam,
Thasmai nama Ravinandanaya., 1

Salutations to the son of Sun god,
Who if remembered daily,
As the lame one, the one who decides the end,
The one who is very angry, the one keeps himself under control,
The one who has hair like lion, the one who is black,
The one who is Sani, the one who is of copper colour, the one who is slow
And as the son of Sun God, destroys all our problems.

Who creates problems, if in bad position
Even to men, kings, cows, lions,

Even to tents of army and to the cities.

Thasmai nama Ravinandanaya., 5

Salutations to the son of Sun god,
Who gets pleased if gingelly,
Barley, jaggery rice, iron and,
Blue cloths are given in charity on Saturdays,
Or if he is worshipped on Saturdays.

Prayagakoole Yamunathate cha,
Saraswathi punya jale guhayam,
Yo yoginaam dhyana gathopi sookshma,
Thasmai nama Ravinandanaya., 6

Salutations to the son of Sun god,
Who lives in prayaga and at the shores,
Of rivers Yamuna and Saraswathy,
Who lives in caves and in a micro form,
In the meditation of great sages.

Anyapradhesath swagruham pravishta,
Thadeeyavare sa nara sukhee syath,
Gruhath gatho yo na puna prayathi,
Thasmai nama Ravinandanaya., 7

Salutations to the son of Sun god,
On whose day, if one reaches his home,
From some outside place, he becomes happy,
And if one leaves his home on that day,
He would become victorious and would not,
Find it necessary to travel again and again.

Srushta swayam bhoor bhuvana thrayasya,
Thratha Hareeso harathe pinaki,
Ekasthridha rug yaju sama moorthi,
Thasmai nama Ravinandanaya., 8

Salutations to the son of Sun god,
Who as Brahma is the creator of three worlds,
Who as Vishnu, takes care of them,
Who as Shiva destroys them,
And who is spread as Rig, Yajur and Sama Veda.

Sanyashtakam ya prayatha prabhathe,
Nithyam suputhrai pasu bandhavaischa,
Padeth thu soukhyam bhuvi bhoga yuktha,
Prapnothi nirvana padam thadanthe., 9

He who reads this octet on Sani,
With devotion, everyday morning,
Would get good children, cows, good relatives,
Enjoy all pleasures and attain salvation at the end.

Konastha pingalo bhabru, krishno roudhro anthako yama,
Souri sanaischaro, manda, pippaladhena samsthutha., 10

He who lives in a triangle, who is of copper colour,
Who has mane like lion, who is of black colour,
Who is very angry, who destroys,
Who controls his senses, who is the son of Sun God,
Who moves slowly and in jerks, who has been sung by Pippalada

Ethani dasa naamani prathar uthaa ya padeth,
Sanaischara krutha peeda na kadachit bhavishyathi., 11

As soon as you get up in the morning.
If these ten names are chanted,
The problems created by Sanaischara,
Would be a thing of past.

Shani (Sanskrit Śani शनि) is one of the Navagraha which are the nine primary celestial beings in Hindu astrology, or Jyotiṣa. Shani is embodied in the planet Saturn. Shani is the Lord of Saturday; the word Shani also denotes the seventh day or Saturday in most Indian languages.
The origin of word Shani(शनि) comes from the following: Shanaye Kramati Sa: (शनये क्रमति सः) i.e. the one who moves slowly, as Saturn takes about 30 years to revolve around the Sun. Shani is also known as Shanaishwar (शनैश्वर) Shani Bhagavan, Shaneesvara, Saneesvara, Shaneesvaran, Shani Deva.
Shani is a Deva and son of Surya (the Hindu Sun God) and his wife Chhaya (Shadow goddess) and hence also known as Chayyaputra. He is the elder brother of Yama, the Hindu God of death, who in some scriptures corresponds to the deliverance of justice. Interestingly, Surya’s two sons Shani and Yama judge. Shani gives us the results of one’s deeds through one’s life through appropriate punishments and rewards; Yama grants the results of one’s deeds after death.
It is said that when Shani opened his eyes as a baby for the very first time, the sun went into an eclipse, which clearly denotes the impact of Shani on astrological charts. He is known as the greatest teacher. Shani dev is said to be very harmful to those who follow the path of betrayal, backstabbing and unjust revenge. He is known in Hindu scriptures as the greatest trouble giver as well as the greatest well wisher. He is depicted dark in colour, clothed in black; holding a sword, arrows and two daggers and variously mounted on a black crow.

In Hindu scriptures

The story of Shani Bhagavan’s life is described in Shri Shani Mahatmyam ॥श्रीशनिमहात्म्यं॥ written several centuries ago. The story of Shani Mahatmyam describes how devotion is required to please him and receive his kripa (blessings). Shri Shani Mahatmyam begins with descriptions of the importance of the other planets and their strengths. These are told by the scholars serving king Vikramaditya’s court from the city of Ujjain.
Shani Bhagavan is described as having a dark complexion, a beautiful face, his caste is teli (Oil vendors), and he prays Kal-bhairav. After listening to the birth story of Shani, Vikramaditya laughed and ridiculed him. Shani heard the remarks of Vikramaditya and placed a curse on him. The story goes on to describe Vikramaditya’s difficulties as a result of offending Shani. He loses his kingdom, he is charged with stealing, his hands and legs are cut-off by a neighbouring king. Eventually, Vikramaditya prays to Shani, who is satisfied with Vikramaditya’s devotion and brings him back to his former glory. The last part of the story describes various experiences faced by various gods, demons and sages, including Brihaspati (the Guru of gods) and Shiva et al. Shani Mahatmyam stresses values such as perseverance in difficult times, complete devotion (bhakti) and faith in the values one believes in, and never to lose confidence in life in spite of difficulties.
According to the Brahma Vaivarta Purana, when the navagraha came to look upon Ganesha shortly after his birth, he lost his human head under Shani’s gaze.

Shaniswara and Hanuman

The worship of Lord Hanuman is a panacea for the harsh effects of the ‘unfavourable’ presence of Lord Shani. In the Ramayana, Lord Hanuman is said to have rescued Shani from the clutches of Ravana and in gratitude, Shani promised Hanuman that anyone who prayed to Him (Hanuman), especially on Saturdays, would be rescued from the “malefic” effects of Saturn, or at the very least, the effects would be softened.
Another version of the encounter between Lord Hanuman and Shani Bhagavan is that once Shani climbed on to Hanuman’s shoulder, implying that Shani’s influence was beginning on Lord Hanuman. At this, Hanuman assumed a large size, and Shani was caught painfully between Hanuman’s shoulders and the ceiling of the room they were in. As the pain was unbearable, Lord Shani requested Lord Hanuman to release him, promising in return, that if a person prayed to Lord Hanuman, he (Shani) would moderate or eliminate the malefic effects of his influence on that person; following this, Lord Hanuman released Shani.
Shaniswara and King Dasaratha

Dasaratha Maharaja was the only person who called Lord Shaniswara for duel as he was to cross his country bringing drought and poverty.Lord Shaniswarar extolled Dasaratha’s virtues and replied to him that “i cant skip my duties but im pleased on your courage.Great sage Rishyasingar can help you.Wherever rishyasingar is, wherever he lives that country will have no drought and dryness”.King Dasaratha after receiving the blessings from Lord Shaniswarar, wisely resolved the difficult situation by making Rishyasingar as his son-in-law.’Santha’ is known to be daughter of Dasaratha was married to Rishyasingar so that he is present in Ayodhya.
Ways to please Shani Bhagavan

According to legend, Shani is a devotee of Lord Shiva. As mentioned in the “Navagraha Pidahara Sthothram” of “Brahmanda Purana”, anybody who chants the following sthothra is relieved from all the ill effects of Shani.

Suryaputhro Deerghadeho Vishaalaakshah Shivapriyah |
Mandachaarah Prasannathmaa peedam harathu me Shanih ||

सूर्य पुत्रो दीर्घ देहो विशालाक्षः शिवप्रियः।
मन्दचारः प्रसन्नात्मा पीडां हरतु मे शनिः ॥

The Shaneeswara Mantra In Tamil:
Sangadangal Theerpai Shani Bagavane
Mangalam Ponga Manam Vaitharul Vai
Sacharavindri Saaga neriyil
Icchagam Vaazha Innarul Thaa Thaa

According to the Vedic astrology, in order to get protection against the bad effects of Saturn’s transit, the following are the possible remedies during the important transits of Saturn – Kanta Sani (When Saturn transits through the eighth house from the natal moon sign), Sade-sati (when Saturn transits through the twelfth, first and second houses from the natal moon sign) –

Worship Vishnu in the form of Lord Krishna and keep chanting ‘Om Namo Narayanaya’, ‘Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare..’
Pray to Sree Hanumanji in His Supreme Cosmic Form, which is the Form in which He shook Shani Bhagavan off of His back and the Form in which He received divine blessings and instructions from Surya, the sun God.
A common mantra for drawing the support of Shani Bhagavan is: Om Sham Shanaiscaryaye Namah. The following is another mantra for propitiating Shani: Aum praang preeng proung sah Shanaye namah Neelaanjan samaabhaasam raviputram yamaagrajam, Chaayaa-maartandam-sambhootam, Tam namaami Shanaishcharam.
Some devotees chant ‘Om Sham Shanaischaryaye Namah’ 108 times daily. Also, if reading vedic textures are practised, then it is suggested to recite Saturn’s sloka from Navagraha Suka starting ‘Shanno…’

In astrology

According to Vedic astrology, Shani Bhagavan is one of the nine Navagraha or planets. Shani is considered to be the strongest malefic and a stern teacher who represents patience, effort, endeavour, and endurance; and who brings restrictions and misfortunes. However, a favourably-placed Shani on the horoscope of a person stands for a strong career, healthy life and everything positive for that person. In fact, a well-placed Shani in one’s horoscope is something every astrology-believing Hindu hopes for, as no other ‘graha’ can bestow what a favourable Shani can. Shani placed “unfavourably”, on the other hand, denotes troubles in all of the above. Shani is much feared by those Hindus who believe in astrology, as the “malefic” effects of his being unfavourably placed can be quite severe. However, it is to be remembered that any pleasure or pain that befalls a person during Shani’s influence is not arbitrary; rather, it is the result of the person’s own karma, now being manifested in the “presence” of Shani. Thus an “unfavourably-placed” Shani brings about the harsh results of one’s bad karma, and vice-versa.The diseases which Lord Shani gives are decay, constriction, poor blood supply, atrophy, etc. and at mental level narrow mind, low thinking. These diseases need to be cured by Lord Shani rules and regulations only.
The planet Shani or Saturn revolves around the Sun in about 30 years, which means it passes through all the 12 rashis or moonsigns in 30 years. Thus Shani Bhagavan spends on an average about two and half years in each rashi or moonsign. This movement of Shani through the moonsigns carries great importance in Hindu astrology and horoscope predictions. The effect of Shani starts when it enters the previous rashi/moonsign to one’s own birth rashi and stops when it leaves the rashi/moonsign after one’s birth rashi. The total period of 7.5 years (2.5 years × 3) is called Saadesaati or “Elanata Shani”, and is typically a period of great difficulty. When it occurs for a person foregoing Shani Maha Dasha the malefic effects of the planet are highly pronounced. It is said that Shani can reduce even a king to a pauper during such period.
Shani rules the signs Makara (Capricorn) and Kumbha (Aquarius), is exalted in Tula (Libra) and is debilitated in Mesha (Aries). Mercury, Venus, Rahu, Ketu are considered friendly towards Shani or Saturn, while the Sun, Moon and Mars are enemies. Guru or Jupiter maintains neutral relations with Shani. Shani is the lord of three nakshatras or lunar mansions: Pushya, Anuradha and Uttara Bhadrapada.
Shani Bhagavan has the following associations: his color is black or dark blue, metal is iron and gemstone is Blue Sapphire. His element or tattva is air, direction is west (where the sun sets and darkness begins) and he rules all seasons. The traditional foods for Shani are sesame seeds or black gram, black lentils or udad, his flower is the violet and he is linked to all black animals and all trees that are considered useless and ugly.
Shani rules over masses. Without the planet’s blessings in one’s horoscope, a mass following is difficult to come by. It is said that an exalted Saturn in the ascendant (or Lagna) of one’s horoscope awards one with such leadership position entailing fame from and recognition among masses. More over, such people are said to have high commitment and perseverance for the task at hand. On the other hand, a debilitated Saturn in one’s horoscope makes one’s ‘Karma’ weak and such individual with debilitated Saturn is said to have poor commitment and perseverance towards duties and hence suffers in the process of completing one’s karmic obligations. Hence ‘Moksha’ is difficult to come by without Shaniswara’s blessings in one’s horoscope.
Lord Shaniswara is also known as Needhiman(Judge). He only troubles the person during his dasa for the wrong doings. Even in Shani Dosha, if a person is Righteous & Devoted he is sure to come out of this period without any ill effects.
Lord Shaniswara is more known for his Blessings than his ill effects. No other graha is comparable with Lord Shani in terms of blessings. He showers with his blessings at the end of his dasha. His Adi-Devata is Prajapati and Pratyadi-Devata is Yama. Lord Shani tests the person patience, He tries to correct our immoral acts by creating frustations, and delays. In the end He makes one conscious enough to understand the mistakes. He removes ignorance from mind by punishment, the benefits that He matures the soul of being and person turns copper to gold from within i.e. he begins to understand the Truths of life, the futility of his actions done out of ignorance. One comes to understand after Lord Shani periods that not much is in control of human beings. It is all Divine acting on human beings through the agents of Gods. Lord Shani is the greatest purifier, everything false will perish and only Truth will shine, that is His message. People born on number 8 are ruled by Lord Shani in numerology. It is a proven fact that number 8, 26 born on any month will have hardships in their life. The hardship have a purpose and it is important to identify the purpose in this lifetime. Remedies of appeasing Shani, includes taking responsibility of wrong actions,self-analysis and hard work.Donation of blue cloth on Saturdays and serving poor also helps.

Sani Vajra Panjarika Kavacham

Translated by P. R. Ramachander

Saturn, the slow moving planet takes 30 years to complete the perambulation of the Sun. He is supposed to be the son of Chaya Devi (Shadow) and the son God. The God of death Yama is his half brother. He takes 30 months to cross one rasi(one by twelfth of the journey), It is believed that when he occupies the twelfth house, first house, second house from moon(called sade sathi or seven and a half year sojourn) or occupies the twelfth house from moon, he causes untold and extreme misery. This great prayer occurring in the Brahmanda Purana is believed to be the best possible antidote for such a situation.

Neelambaro, Nelavapu, kireeti,

Grdhra sthitha, sthrasakaro, dhanushman,
Chathurbhuja, suryasutha, prasanna,
Sada mama syadwaradha prasantha., 1

Oh god dressed in blue silk, who has a blue body,
Who wears a crown, who sits on vulture,
Who gives misfortunes, who is armed with a bow,
Who has four hands and who is son of Sun God,
Be pleased with me always and happily grant me boons.

Brahmo Uvacha:

Brahma told:

Srunu dwam rishaya, Sarva sani peeda haram mahath,
Kavacham Sani Rajasya Soureridhamanuthamam., 2

Be pleased to hear oh sage, the great armour,
Which is a cure to all misery brought by king Sani,
Who is the incomparably great in the clan of the Sun.

Kavacham devatha vasam vajra panjara samgnakam,
SAnaishara preethikaram, sarva soubhagya dhayagam., 3

This armour called “thunderbolt shield” in which gods live,
Is very dear to the slow moving planet, and brings all luck.

Om Sri Sanaischara, pathu bhalam may Soorya nandana,
Nethre Chayathmaja pathu, pathu karnou Yamanuja., 4

Om, Oh God Saturn, let the son of Sun protect my forehead,
Let the darling son of Chaya protect my eyes,
Lat my ears be protected by the brother of Yama.

Nasam Vaivaswaswatha Pathu, mukham may Bhaskara sada,
Snigha kandashasch may kandaam, bhujou pathu Mahabhuja., 5

Let my nose be protected by Sun God,
Let the illuminator always protect my face,
Let he with a pleasant voice protect my voice,
And let the great armed God protect my arms.

Skandhou pathu sanischaiva, karou pathu shubha pradha,
Vaksha pathu Yama bhratha, kukshim paathvasitha sthadha., 6

Let my shoulders be protected by Sani,
Let my hands be protected by he who does good,
Let the brother of Yama protect my chest,
And the one who is dark in colour protect my navel.

Nabhim grahpathi pathu, manda pathu kateem thadha,
Ooru mamanthaka pathu, yamo januyugam thadha., 7

Let my stomach be protected by the lord of all planets,
Let the slow mover protect my hips,
Let he who makes end protect my thighs,
And let Yama protect my pair of knees.

Padou Manda gathi pathu, sarvangam pathu pippala,
Angopangani sarvani rakshen may Surya nandana., 8

Let my legs be protected by him with slow speed,
Let all my organs be protected by he who wears the coat,
And all my primary and secondary organs,
Be protected by the darling sin of the Sun God.

Ithyethath kavacham divyam padeth soorya suthasya ya,
Na thaasya jayathe peeda, preetho bhavathi sooryaja., 9

If this armour of the son of the Sun God is read,
No misery will come to him and,
The son of Sun God would be pleased with him.

Vyayay janma dwitheeyastho, mruthyu sthana gatrhopi va,
Kalathrastho gatho vapi supreethasthu sada sani., 10

Whether Saturn occupies the twelfth, first or second house,
Or even goes to the house of death or occupies the seventh star,
Saturn will always be pleased with him.

Ashtamastha soorya suthe vyaye, janma dwitheeyage,
Kavacham padathe nithyam, na peeda jayathe kwachith., 11

If the son of Sun God is in eighth, twelfth, first or second house,
Daily reading this Kavacham, no misery would ever be caused.

Ithyedath kavacham divyam saureya nirmitham pura,
Dwadasahtama janmastha doshan nasayathe sada.,
Janma lagna sthithaan doshan sarvan nasayathe Prabhu., 12

This holy divine armour composed by Sun in ancient times,
Would destroy the ills caused by eighth, twelfth, first and second house,
And also destroy the bad effects of Saturn occupying the Lagna rasi(Ascendent)

Ithi Sri Brahmanda Purane Brahma Narada Samvade,
Sani Vajra panjara kavacham sampoornam,

Thus ends the thunderbolt armour of Saturn,
Occuring in the discussion between Brahma and sage Narada,
In Brahmanda Puranam
