Tarpanam refers to the offerings made to an individual’s ancestors according to the method prescribed by the vedas.
The word Tarpan means “That offering which satisfies”. But what we mean by the word Tharpanam is the offering of water
This is performed by religious Hindus in honour of their ancestors. It is believed that such offerings can make the dead ancestors happy and help the offering individuals lead their future lives in peace.
Vasu, Rudra and Adhithya are the devas who receive our oblations and make it reach to our ancestors wherever they are and in whichever form they are
Tarpanams are performed periodically and on specific days such as during amavasya (No moon day), eclipses etc.
