LORD SRI KRISHNA & THE STORY OF SALVA’S VIMANA

Translated from the Sanskrit text of the

Bhagavata Purana

The Bhagavata Purana is all about the activities of the Hindu god Vishnu in his various incarnations (avatars), and particularly as Krishna. It includes an account of a war between the evil King Salva and his attempt to destroy the city of Krishna called Dwarka. In the process it describes weapons which have all the earmarks of modern rocketry and aerial vehicles which have capabilities far beyond conventional aircrafts.

 

 Itis common for most modern Hindu translators to render the Sanskrit vimana as “airplane”. But since the aerial vehicles described in this document move through the air using neither wings nor conventional engines,

prefer to leave the Sanskrit term intact so the reader will know that these are not ordinary aircraft. Likewise, the Sanskrit term usually translated “arrow”. From the descriptions given within the text, it is easily seen that such, on occasion, are some sort of high-tech missile; therefore, I consider the use of the term “shaft” or “missile” to be more applicable.

Lord Krishna’s home base is the legendary city known as Dwarka. His mortal enemy, King Salva, has requested an extremely high-tech aerial vehicle (i.e., a vimana) by which he might destroy the city of Dwarka and kill his hated enemy, Lord Krishna. The accomplished architect/engineer Maya Danava fulfills Salva’s request. The details can be found in the Sanskrit Bhavagata Purana:

“Salva chose a vimana that could not be destroyed by Devas, Asuras, humans, Gandharvas, Uragas nor Rakshasas, that could travel anywhere he wished to go, and that would terrify the Varishnis.”

“Lord Siva said, ‘So be it.’ On his order, Maya Danava, who conquers his enemies’ cities, constructed a flying vehicle made of iron named Saubha, and presented it to Salva.”

Delighted with his new wonderful and powerful airship, the wicked King Salva gathers his army about him and heads for the city of Krishna to do battle.

“This unassailable vehicle was filled with darkness and could go anywhere. Upon obtaining it, Salva, remembering the Varishnis’ enmity toward him, proceeded to the city of Dwarka.

Salva besieged the city with a large army, O best of the Bharatas, decimating the outlying parks and gardens, the mansions along with their observatories, towering gateways and surrouding walls, and also the public recreational areas.

However fortunes turn, and in short order King Salva’s forces are decimated. Infuriated, King Salva makes use of his newly acquired aerial contrivance to attack the city with every means at his disposal.

“From his excellent vimana he threw down a torrent of projectiles . . . A fierce vortex arose and blanketed the entire area with billowing dust.”—Bhavagata Purana(10.76)

Lord Krishna suddenly appears in his shining chariot to confront King Salva in battle. When Salva saw Krishna’s chariot on the battlefield, he thereupon released a great and powerful weapon which “flew through the sky with a roaring sound like a great meteor”. The text describes it as being so bright that it literally “lit up the entire sky”. This sounds a lot like a blazing rocket! As Krishna began his counterattack, Salva engages the special powers of his vimana in an all out effort to avoid destruction. A modern translator provides us with the graphic details:

“The airplane occupied by Salva was very mysterious. It was so extraordinary that sometimes many airplanes would appear to be in the sky, and sometimes there were apparently none. Sometimes the plane was visible and sometimes not visible, and the warriors of the Yadu dynasty were puzzled about the whereabouts of the peculiar airplane. Sometimes they would see the airplane on the ground, sometimes flying in the sky, sometimes resting on the peak of a hill, and sometimes floating on the water. The wonderful airplane flew in the sky like a whirling firebrand—it was not steady even for a moment.” (Bhaktivedanta, 1986)

[The last sentence, containing the statement of Salva’s celestial vehicle looking like a “whirling firebrand,” should cause one to look twice at the so-called “wheels” of Ezekiel as described in the Hebrew Bible. The similarities are striking. Did Ezekiel encounter four ancient vimanas on several occasions during his captivity in Babylonia? Lord Krishna first destroyed King Salva’s “great weapon,” by discharging his own missile, described as being “bright as the sun in the sky”. (These sound more like hi-tech missiles and anti-missils rather than what we think of as ordinary “arrows”!) He then disabled Salva’s vimana completely by releasing an overwhelming shower of destructive missiles; and eventually “Salva’s wondrous vimana burst into pieces and fell into the sea”.

Salva miraculously escapes the doomed vimana at the last minute, and on foot, rushes vehemently at his hated enemy. The latter, “shining like the sun rising over the mountains,” ushers forth the final blow by utilizing a “brilliant discus”. Thus, after a tremendously high-tech battle, the evil King Salva and his flying machine are finally brought to an ignominious end.

 

Sanskrit scholars and intellectuals tend to look for a long time considered as mythology till historic findings came to known as same & true written in the scriptures.. No doubt, over time such stories have been seen only with religious aspects ; but the often highly technological details embedded in some of these early texts remain difficult to explain.

According to the Vishnu Purana, the entire city of Dwarka was submerged by the sea shortly after Lord Krishna went back to his abode Vaikunta heaven.

 

For Many Years This stories were considered by westernminded so called mudheaded scholars to be nothing more than Indian mythology.

But what if the underwater ruins of the city were actually discovered? In such a case should we continue to consider all this as nothing more than pious fiction?

As it happened, on 19 May 2001 India’s science and technology minister Murli Manohar Joshi announced the finding of ruins in the Gulf of Khambhat after indications were first noted by a team from the National Institute of Ocean Technology (NIOT) in December 2000 using acoustic techniques. A follow up investigation was conducted by the same institute in November 2001, which included dredging to recover artifacts.

A round of further underwater explorations was made of the site by the NIOT team from 2003 to 2004, when samples were obtained of what was presumed to be pottery, and sent to laboratories in Oxford, UK and Hannover, Germany, as well as several institutions within India, for dating purposes. Evidence indicates that the submerged city of Dwarka has been discovered. 

However, certain wooden objects, obviously manmade and carbon dateable, were found by Alok Tripathi, Superintending Archaeologist of the Underwater Archaeology Wing of the Archaeological Survey of India. This, and other discoveries by NIOT using C-14 dating, established an age of 7,500 years for the various artifacts excavated from the submerged site (Sundaresh & Tripati, 2004). The depth of the underwater ruins, resting some 150 feet below the surface, tends to support this early date.

The Vimaka shastra by Sage Bharthdwaja & Maharishi Kardama

This ancient book which was discovered & translated by Shivkar Bapuji Talpade a Great Indian Scientist who flew the first Aeroplane from his hard work and limited avalibilty of instruments tat he made from his little money.

Shivkar Bāpuji Talpade (1864-1916) was an Indian scholar who is said to have constructed and flown an unmanned airplane in 1895. Talpade lived in Bombay and was a scholar of Sanskrit literature and the Vedas.

 

Talpade was born in the Bombay (now Mumbai), Maharashtra.[ He completed his school education in Sir Jamsetjee Jeejebhoy School of Art. During his time there he came to know about ancient Indian aeronautics through his teacher Chiranjilal Verma, who led Talpade to read Swami Dayanand Saraswati’s works related to ancient aeronautics, such as ‘Rigvedādic Bhāshya Bhumikā’ and ‘Rigved and Yajurveda Bhāshya’.

However, some sources also suggests that his works were based on the work done by Maharishi Bharadwaja in Rigveda. Inspired by these texts he decided to construct the Vedic Vimāna described in the Vedas, and started learning Vedic Sanskrit language.

Pratap Velkar, in his book on the Pathare Prabhu community, says that Talpade also studied the achievements of aviation pioneers like Thomas Alva Edison who flew in a balloon. Talpade’s study included the experiment of machine gun inventor Hiram Maxim who made a captive steam-driven aircraft. According to Mr. Velkar, Mr. Talpade studied these flights, which inspired him to make, an aircraft and fly.

his first controlled, powered and sustained heavier-than-air human flight. Talpade’s airplane was named Marutsakhā, a term used for the goddess Sarasvati in the Rigveda (RV 7.96.2) — a portmanteau of Marut meaning stream of air and Sakha meaning friend.

Talpade lived in Mumbai and was a scholar in Sanskrit literature and Vedas.

According to a study by researchers at the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, Talpadeconstructed Marutsakhā under the guidance of Pandit Subbarāya Shāstry.

] Shāstry was the author of the Vaimānika Shāstra, an early 20th century Sanskrit text on aeronautics obtained by Vedic studies and automatic writing. Marutsakhā may have been constructed based on Vimāna, mythological flying machines from Vedic literature.

This is suggested by D. K. Kanjilal’s 1985 Vimana in Ancient India: Aeroplanes Or Flying Machines in Ancient India, as well as reports contemporary to Talpade in the Marāthi-language newspaper Kesari.[One of Talpade’s students, P. Velakara quotes one of Talpade’s nieces, Roshan Talpade, as saying the family used to sit in the aircraft’s frame and imagine they were flying.A model reconstruction of Marutsakhā was exhibited at an exhibition on aviation at Vile Parle, and Hindustan Aeronautics Limited has preserved some documents relating to the experiment.

Maa Lakshmi Mantra Sadhana on Kali Choudas

दिवाली की रात कुबेर भगवान ने लक्ष्मी जी की आराधना की थी तो कुबेर बन गए ,जो धनाढ्य लोगो से भी बड़ा धनाढ्य है..सभी धन का स्वामी है..ऐसा इस काल का महत्त्व है.. दिया जलाके जाप कराने वाले को धन, सामर्थ्य , ऐश्वर्य पाए…ध्रुव , रजा प्रियव्रत ने भी आज की रात को लक्ष्मी प्राप्ति का , वैभव प्राप्ति का जप किया था…मन्त्र बहुत सरल है…मन्त्र का फल प्राप्त करने के लिए श्रद्धा से मंत्र सुने –

माँ लक्ष्मी मन्त्र :-
श्रीं ह्रीं क्लीं ऐं कमलवासिन्यै स्वाहा

The Second Day is called Narak-Chaturdashi or more popularly as Chhoti Diwali which falls on the 14th day of the month of Kartik. This festival is observed to commemorate the victory of Lord Krishna over the demon king, Narkasur. This day is also celebrated as the birthday of Hanumanji or Hanuman jayanti. Also, on this day Hanumanji reached Ayodhya to deliver the long-awaited message of Lord Shree Sita Rama’s return. Just like diwali people light diyas on chhoti diwali to fill their homes with light, worship Goddess Laxmi and offer prayers to Her and they also burst firecrackers

Also referred to as Narak-Chaturdashi, Kali Chaudas is day to abolish laziness and evil which create hell in our life and shine light on life.

Narak Chaturdashi Snan is considered as the most auspicious ritual to perform on this day. It is believed that this festival marks the ending of darkness and beginning of brightness or happiness in the world.

Narak Chaturdashi:
The prayer to chant just before Naraka Chaturdashi Snan:

Ashwatthama balirvyaso Hanumancha vibheeshanah krupah Parashurashcha sapthaithe Chiranjeevinah

The above mantra is chanted by mothers before giving bath to their children. Chanting this sloka mothers shower their babies

Akshata (consecrated rice) on childrens heads.

After Narak Chaturdashi snan, this given mantra is chanted:

Bhramayeth snanamadhyethu narakasya kshayayahi
Sheetaloshta samayuktha sakantaka dalanvitha
Hara papa mapaamaarga Bhramyamaanah punah punah

While lighting deepa or diya and remembering ancestors, the below given mantra is chanted in the evening:

Chaturdashyam thu Yedeepaan narakaya dadanthi cha
Thesham pitruganassarve narakath swarga maapnuyu

The strength to protect others is referred as Kali,
The poojan is performed with flowers Coconuts are also offered as prashad to Hanumanji.

Kali means Dark ( the destroyer of evil ) and Chaudas – Fourteenth. Thus, celebrated on the 14th day of the dark half of Āshwin month, Kali Chaudas is the day allotted to the worship of Maha-Kali or Shakti and is believed that on this day Kali killed the wickedest. Also referred to as Narak-Chaturdashi, Kali Chaudas is day to abolish laziness and evil which create hell in our life and shine light on life. The strength to protect others is referred as Kali, and if its used for God’s work is called Mahakali.

On this night, the kajal made from the diya or deepam with mustard oil (Sarsoo ka tel )in it, which is kept lightened the whole night has special powers,application of this kajal in the eyes or on babies forehead, is believed to keep away the nazar (evil eye).

After the puja, the diyas are placed in and around the house: in the doorway, near the Tulasi plant.
This night is very special for Mantra Siddhi

Alternatively, people offer Nivedya to the mother goddess
This goddess is called their ‘Kul Devi’, in order to cast off evil spirits.
This second day of Diwali is known as Kali Choudas .

This day celebrates the victory of the Lord Shri Krishna & his consort Satyabhama over the evil demon of filth, Narakasura.

The Story of King Bali :
With his valour Bali conquered every bit of space, thus he became the most powerful king on earth. In his kingdom, justice was mere word, truth had no place and happiness was a dream. His form of charity was an occasion for pomp and show and those who went to seek Alms from the king Bali suffered the indignity of insults and humiliation. In fact, he felt that the vast wealth will remain and the pittance he handed out now and again could not affect even an iota of his asset. His false beliefs, arrogance and misrule ended when the Lord disguised as beggar and humble proved to Bali that his concepts were totally wrong and even his vast wealth could disappear in seconds. King Bali asked the dwarf beggar to ask for anything in his kingdom and with three steps even his crown vanished. With his first step Lord Vishnu covered the entire heaven and with the second step the earth and asked Bali where to keep his third step. Bali offered his head and became spiritually enlightened. Thus, this festival has a far deeper significance than a mere exhibition of gaiety and splendor. The Narak chaturdashi day therefore is dedicated to lights and prayers heralding a future full of joy and the elimination of greed.

In South-India, people wake up before sunrise prepare a paste by mixing Kumkum in oil, which is called ‘Ubtan’, on their foreheads and then take bath.

Story of Narakchaturdashi from Srimad Bhagvad Maha Puraan

In Dwapar Yuga, Lord Krishna, the ascendant of Lord Vishnu, killed the notorious demon Narakasura on the same day as that of Diwali.

Narakasura was the son of Goddess Bhoomi. Despite of a great parentage, he possessed devilish tendencies.
Narakasura gota boon that he may be only killed by the hands of a women as he considered them to be weak he thought he would become immortal.
After getting this boon he started terrrifying all the three worlds.
He used to loot the people of three worlds and due to the supernatural powers he had nobody could stop him. Not only he plundered their valuable things, but abducted the womenfolk too. There was a terror of Narakasura everywhere.

Once Narakasura attacked the heavens to get hold of the army of elephants of Lord Indra. Indra being helpless before the demon, immediately to Lord Krishna to ask for help. Krishna at that time was spending a leisurely time with his wife Satyabhama. In order to fulfill both his duties as a friend and as a husband he took Satyabhama at the battlefield.

On his divine vehicle Garuda (a giant eagle), Lord Krishna set for the fort of Narakasura. His grand fort was guarded by a five headed demon Mura.

Lord shri Krishna destroyed all his forts and raksha kavachs along with the whole army of demons.

With his Sudarshana flying discus, Krishna beheaded Mura and then challenged Narakasura to come to fight on the battlefield.

It was an easy victory for great Shri Krishna. Narakasura was killed by Goddess Satyabhama inthe battle.The killing of Narakasura again takes us to the message that it is inevitable for virtue and truth to win over vice and evil.
